Never heard of it but sounds good , has a great cast and written by James Cameron sold me.
This thread has made me realize we need James Cameron to make more original movies and not just Avatar sequels that take 10 years.
And directed by Bigelow - who has done some damn good movies.
It bombed so it is easily forgotten but I though it was really unique and a well told story. The cast is excellent though seeing Fiennes in a "action hero" leading man role is a bit weird.
Great soundtrack too.
Watch and it and let me know if it is still good or if I have a elevated memory of it.

If we're going underrated 80's movies, I have to throw out a vote for Maximum Overdrive. Such a stupidly fun movie, that is if watching a guy get murdered by a Pepsi machine is your thing

I only like watching people being murdered by 'Off Brand' vending machines.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I'm going to go ahead and not put this in NSFW tags, but if you watch the Criterion version of Robocop, and go frame by frame during the death of Murphy scene, you can see each individual finger blown off of his hand. And these were practical effects. There were a number of small 1 to 5 second bursts of film in that movie that caused it to have an X rating before it was pared down. I'm very grateful that the original is available, it makes the pacing even better.

Also if you're in the mood for nostalgia, watch the original Tremors. It's so, so fun. Fred Ward is a criminally under-utilized actor and the woman who played the university student is now a scary looking convict. Also Kevin Bacon is amazing.
A couple years ago I watched every one of them. Let me tell you, that's a very uneven series. Some are great, some are bad, some are so bad they are better than good. It's worth the ride.
I forgot about Arachnophobia. That was a good one. For some reason, I heard they used actual funnel web spiders for all of the scenes, but that sounds kind of negligent.

Oh if you really want to get obscure one of my favourite time traveling movies is The Navigator: a medevial odyssey. New Zealand movie directed by Vincent Ward who showed a lot of early promise and then when he finally got a big chance made that schloppy mess what dreams may come.
But Navigator is completely unique and amazing if you can find it. I’ve hung on to an old vhs copy that I stumbled across in that video store under Sunset Billiards
According to David Mamet, four perfect films are The Godfather, A Place In The Sun, Dodsworth, and Galaxy Quest.
Not exactly the list I was expecting, but hey.

I've watched it very recently, and it's probably more enjoyable today than back when it was released. The soundtrack is a great nostalgia trip to nineties alternative, the themes are as relevant now as they'll ever be, and the very flawed protagonist feels even more sleazy and broken, in an interesting way.
I totally recommend watching it again.

I own the unrated director's cut on bluray, and it's much more violent and gory than the theatrical version. I'm assuming this is the same version as the Criterion. I watched it recently for the first time in years, and it still holds up. Great movie.

Arachnaphobia is still great! I dont even have a particular fear of spiders but that movie.....it'll make one.
Starship Troopers is awesome.
I dont know...you get people who say 'that movie was stupid!!' And....I hate, i really hate being 'that guy.' Yeah...that movie was very stupid.
Um. Its practically slapping you in the face with how stupid it is. Unfortunately...its also not wrong.
As I said, I hate being the 'you dont like it because you didnt get it!' guy.
But Starship Troopers is pretty blatant about its goals, and I think it accomplishes them quite well.
