I wonder if it's an actual black ghally, or if it's like a weapon skin. Everyone has the chance to get a ghally now through the quest.

Maybe a legendary version of the ghally. Weapon skins would be pretty dope though

Excited for the new content for sure - especially the new raid. I'm hoping its some sort of a mix between Vault of Glass and Kings Fall. The big drawback of Kings Fall in my opinion was the fact that if one person dies in certain parts (totems, daughters, oryx) you pretty much had to wipe. Whereas in VoG, there were parts where 4 or 5 could make it if you were close to the end of a sequence.

Wonder if they will have a Y2 moments of triumph? I liked that aspect in Y1, working towards a bunch of goals.

Also, yes to the Black Ghally.

I didn't mean to preorder as fast I did but considering the amount of time I've put into this game, it's a no brainer for $30 to continue enjoying the new content with friends. Now only the long summer to try enjoy other things before Destiny becomes the priority again.

Also something random I started working on last night. The sharefactory is actually decently robust so I guess I better keep saving more footage.

It was tough to determine from the stream, but is the Ghally only a preorder exclusive, and you get a quest line to receive it? Or does the preorder give you the Ghally, and if you don't preorder, you'll have to complete a quest line instead?

My understanding is that the quest line is for the Ghally, and the preorder bonus is the Iron Ghally.

From the stream it seems everyone gets the quest for the Gally, the pre order just gives you access to the iron ghally AFTER you complete the quest.

Yep I ended up pre-ordering, mainly because it was $30 CAD. I was scared that was a mistake in pricing since it's also $30 USD, so I jumped on it before they could change it lol.

Is the pre-order still $30CAD? For the year 3 expansion, that is a solid price. I guess all the silver micro-transactions have brought the price down for everyone else?

My understanding is the Black Gally is more of a "skin" and you still have to complete the quest. I wonder how powerful it will be though - I feel people will expect too much.

In other random news, I ran with an LFG team last night in the raid to try and grab some more 335 gear (successful there), but I'm not sure I've even seen a more disorganized team. I'm pretty sure the other 5 all played together regularly and I was the extra addition. To be honest, I'm surprised we finished the daughters, but there was no way Oryx was going down. Still a fun group, but I haven't ran into a 330+ team that was still having trouble with the raid.

Large update to all subclasses:

https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/44846

As someone who only runs hunter basically, I am very saddened that tripmines are no longer sticky. However, circle of life is now a viable option, where a throwing knife kills reduces the golden gun cooldown.

Also, the skip granade for bladedance was nerfed pretty good. While I did love them, it needed to be done.

I pre-ordered as well, Canadians get a deal... Not fond of the Hunter changes, especially the tripmines... also doctrine gets a 6% damage decrease... Twilight Garrison is now a single dodge on a 3-second cooldown which I like, as does Shadestep. Disappointed that the Titan Lightning Grenades didn't get nerfed :/

All right, I've been itching to get back into Destiny again. I spent entirely way too much time playing for the first 8 months of its release, then sort of cut off cold turkey since. I never liked doing raids, and not too interested in the competitive crucible, but liked doing a mission (or Nightfall) here and there and some casual 6v6 crucible. The gunplay in this game is just so satisfying.

Of course, everything will have changed, and I will have to figure it all out again. How to level things up, what guns are good, etc. So, what's the deal in Crucible? I used to love auto rifles until they were nerfed into pea shooters, then got used to hand cannons, but I think they were slowly buffing the auto rifles back to relevance again. Currently, today, what do I want to be using in Crucible? Also, is there any mode yet that does away with supers? Makes me rage so much getting a streak of kills only to be killed by an impossible to defend, overpowered super.

Here is a good guide for you. It has different sections for each "time off period". Just scroll to the section that matches up with your break from the game, and it'll be a good starting point.

Thanks, yea, I came across that guide. I'm sure it is a frequent/annoying occurrence for Destiny players to comment about how "everything's different, I don't know what to do!". It was just more a comment that because of constant tweaks and changes, it makes a psychological barrier to coming back into the game. But of course, for current players, the constant tweaks are necessary and interesting in their own right. I find it a fascinating balance, and despite all the #### that Bungie got upon release (and continues to get), they have made a fun and addicting game.

Ah - I see what you mean now. I remember putting it down for a month or two and coming back very confused. When my first infusion went 1:1 I was pretty excited though.

I'm most pleased now that all the weapon classes are fairly balanced; each weapon type is good in different situations (correctly), so you have diversity in load-outs now depending on your PvE activity or PvP map.

Trying to decide if it's worth coming back. Still one of my favourite games this gen, if not ever. But I've been away so long, I'm sure it's changed a ton and the people I played with, which made it so enjoyable, have almost assuredly moved on. Thoughts?

Come back. Xpacs are always a great time to hit the reset button on everyone. Some people move on, but sometimes the most fun comes out of playing with new people.

I just reinstalled it after I don't even know how long... Was fun running around again doing the new quests and daily heroic. My main reason for setting Destiny aside was that the group got too big and had too many people fighting for spots to raid or nightfall or whatever. Still a fun game and hasn't been difficult at all to just pick up where I left off.

I was in the same boat, I quit playing because there was a "elitist" vibe starting and it drove me nuts. I wanted to play with buddies and shoot things in the face. When it became people arguing with one another and fighting for spots it got old very quick.

Yea, I found the hard mode raids too hard. And I wasn't one of the best players in my group (but middle of the pack), and didn't like being #### on for not getting things done. But also frustrated me that in order to get the best loot, you had to do the raids (and hard mode raids), and the best guns to use in the hard mode raids happened to be the guns that you previously acquired from doing hard mode raids. So there wasn't even anything you could do individually on the side to grind out a better weapon for the next run.

I much prefer strikes, and winning by some light 'cheesing'. Not the glaring exploits that people discover and are then patched, but things like finding cover where the AI can't easily get you and carefully, methodicaly picking away at the boss (which I would call a solid strategy, but others would call cheesing, including Bungie when they patched some strikes to reset progress if you were hanging back too much). I had a blast doing Nightfalls like this, with and without a fireteam.

So I started playing again, and worked a character up to about level 305. Hoping I can be in somewhat respectable shape for the next Iron Banner. A few things in the Crucible I still find infuriating:
  • I constantly get 1-shotted with a shotgun from what seems like 20ft away. And yet when I try to use a shotgun, I often fail to kill anybody with 3 shots, from what seems like an ever closer range. I know lag pays a part in this, but still doesn't make sense.
  • Similarly for fusion rifles. At least I can get a few one shot kills, but from an in-your-face rage. But again, I seem to get one shot from 20-30ft away. From that distance, I can barely damage anybody with a fusion rifle.

On the other hand, things that are incredibly satisfying:
  • Setting up the perfect tripmine, so that that someone turns the corner, you hit them with a few shots, and they advance, falling into your trap.
  • Throwing knife headshots
  • Taking on a fireteam of 3-4 well-coordinated players with a ragtag team of individuals, and beating them.
