Why send the tear up crew around to 100 different places when everything else is way behind? This just doesn't seem all that complicated, so perhaps there is a good reason, but I can't think of one.
First they have a "crew" that comes and puts up the pylons and signage.

Next they have a "crew" that comes and marks out removal areas.

Then they have a "crew" that comes and does sawcuts.

Then they have a "crew" that comes and breaks up finer areas like around manholes, storm drains and valves.

Then they have a "crew" that comes and breaks up larger areas such as the old road/walk.

Then a "crew" comes and removes all of that material.

Then another "crew" comes and does marking again.

Then another "crew" comes and does grating of the road surface.

Then another "crew" comes and stakes out location of formwork.

Then another "crew" comes and sets the formwork.

Then another "crew" comes and pours concrete.

Then another "crew" comes and finishes the concrete.

Then another "crew" comes and removes the manholes and rings.

Then another "crew" comes and cleans and clears the road grated area.

Then another "crew" comes and oils the grated area.

Then another "crew" comes and does one layer of asphalt paving.

Then another "crew" comes and digs random holes all over and fills with gravel.

Then another "crew" comes and removes that layer of paving around all of the manholes.

Then another "crew" comes and completely digs a huge pit in this area for utility work.

Then another "crew" comes and reinstalls all the manholes and rings.

Then another "crew" comes and cleans and clears the grated area.

Then another "crew" comes and does a final layer of asphalt paving.

Then the grandchildren of those crews come and paint the lines.

Then the great grandchildren of those crews come and reinstall all of the parking and stop signs.

Then the great great great grandchildren of those crews come and remove the construction pylons and signage.

Signed,
Sunnyside Resident

A ton of people just speed through them. It is actually an epidemic. Or course someone on here once argued with me that they do not slow to 30 in a playground zone because they do not believe in the law.

So many of them are what cause a boy who cried wolf situation.

Honestly officer, if there wasn't six already I had to crawl through I wouldn't have sped through the seventh.

Why does Vancouver not seem to have school/playground zones? Are they just a Calgary invention or is my lack of travel at display?

Kinda GMG how the same people who wouldn't quit complaining that the flames needed to bottom out and rebuild have now moved on to impotently crying about roster moves and coaching. Bro we suck you got what you want, are you just addicted to being a whiny bitch?

I assume you can get going fast enough ever around Vancouver, or maybe the traffic calming measures take care of it.

I'm not the biggest Gondek fan but to be fair the road neglect started under Nenshi. It's possible it was an attempt to secure votes but the scathing 2024 report stating Calgary roads were amongst the worst in Canada likely kickstarted the construction to which they almost overcompensated trying to get it all done in one summer.

Nah, these things are planned further in advance. Besides there's still lots of roads in terrible condition.

Calgary roads have never been all that well maintained esp. due to the extremely lazy method of snow clearing this city does. I think the creepy one just sorta left it on that trajectory.

It's such an amazing experience to drive on roads that are actually smooth and quiet. It's so rare now around the city. Everything is pitted and holier than the vatican.

I'll remember her for her rush to chase after social credit points to spend Calgary tax dollars for her crusade for some religious symbols in Quebec to start her job on the other side of the country. The climate emergency declaration and going after plastic bag fees and then slinking away from it. Her previous history to defund the police and then fleeing from a question about it at a press conference (leaving the Premier to actually act like an adult). Letting public transit go to absolute #### with crime and drugs, taking a 5 minute press tour ride with media for photos with a police escort and never using it ever again. Ignoring places like Marda Loop while forcing years of density and dragged out construction screwing over businesses but only desperately wanting to "hear local feedback" in the months before an election.

She clearly didn't give a #### about the city until the job application came up again.

The City was one of my clients, the employee we dealt with was pretty high up, I'll let you guess how CT got so messed up.

With over 1,200 of them, Calgary likely has the most playground zones of any North American city, so it isn't unreasonable that you go to another city and notice a dearth of the things by comparison.

The problem with the way Calgary does it is, well, read the above. The article is from 2019, but it won't surprise anyone which three it calls out as being something of a joke that damages the credibility of enforcement. And this isn't some motorist advocate or professional traffic ticket consultant saying it, it's the guy who co-founded Vision Zero YYC.
