GMG: Car radios that don't let you finely tune the volume. 7 is too quiet. 8 is too loud. Who wants a 20 point scale?!? Gimme 50 points or more!

All apple devices have this problem. The volume scale needs to be doubled.

That’s an Apple trick people may not know, when you push one of the volume buttons the slider appears, you can then use the slider with your fingers.

And doing business with them deserves almost it’s entire own grind my gear thread. There is no worse oligopoly in Canada and no other business more ripe for government intervention. They are THE worst. Actually. Maybe TC Energy and it’s management of the TC system. So I’ll broaden this and say. Infrastructure monopoly/ oligopolies are THE worst.
Can I get a meter TC to tie-in? Sure we should have that ready by 2046 thanks. For as much as people in oil and gas bitch about the government or liberals or this or that- TC is every bit if not more to blame for Alberta’s woes and it’s not a squeak from people about their ####ty service.
The billions of dollars lost due to regionally trapped Canadian gas because of one company is insane.

I can think of two other oligopolies in Canada and they’re both brutal, but necessary to deal with.

Yeah, I didn’t think it needed to be said, lol. They’re terrible, but you have no real options. Things work decent enough with them, until you actually need something in terms of service or making changes to things.

So here’s the thing with banks. Not really. There is actually quite a few it’s just that the big banks all seem to have the same ####ty service for the most part. The largest annoyance of banks is now restrictive they are with your money. Can’t do this. Can’t do that. Rules for this. Rules for that.
As well, service wait calls to talk to people are unnecessarily long, time consuming, yes quite bad service. For companies with their profits you should be able to talk to a person stat / post haste.
But there are options. There are smaller banks and credit unions, and actually quite a few of them. The problem is none of these groups tend to have the same service levels or online / mobile functions as the bigger ones. I am with RBC but have been strongly thinking about leaving, but I know if I do that it’ll cost a lot too and could be more of a hassle than it’s worth.
Telecoms are just #### in Canada. There’s not much else that can be said there.

Bank service is awful when it really shouldn't be. I received a new credit card the other day from a bank that I don't bank with. During the activation process it had me create a username and password because I don't have any accounts with them already. That username and password doesn't work in the banking login page. So I thought I actually might actually need to create a new profile to get access to my credit card account. But in that process it ask for my credit card number, expiry and CVV number and when I enter that stuff it says it is invalid and that I have to call in to get my account set up.
The card is already activated and I've it in store already so that is not a problem but I can't get access my account. So frustrating.

It’s just beyond ridiculous though. I posted an experience a few weeks ago where I needed a new account (I already had 4-5 for various reasons) and it was so painful. Then I deposit the cheque from another large, well known Canadian bank, and they held it for 15 business days. It’s laughable, because there’s no possible way it could three weeks to verify, I had more than enough to cover that value in my other accounts anyway, but here we are. They have no actual competition and there’s nothing you can do as a consumer.
This morning we need to send $900 to someone in the US. It’s unbelievably restrictive. I get it; I work in finance and I know cross-border things are a pain. But it’s far below an amount of concern, and it’s not a complicated transaction…only it is.
I’m not a “crypto-bro” or anything like that, but pretty clear to me that crypto and blockchain could solve a lot of these issues, only the banks won’t actually let it happen. In the case of that 3 week hold, they love it. We all know the cheque was fine and never going to bounce. But they get to hold that for three weeks and clip the interest. That seems like no big deal, but it’s an enormous amount of money. There’s literally a disincentive for them to make those processes easier and more streamlined, so why would they move toward it?

I don't think changing a colour palette would help your concerns but it's a start.

I find it too sensitive. When I move it to the perfect volume it shifts higher or lower the moment I take my finger off it.

Terrible suggestions really grind my gears. You can’t use a dialling wand for that, you need a volume wand that’s compatible with IOS. Clean it up Brendone.

Plus what kind of Luddite peasant is manually adjusting volume? My phone stays in my pocket and I adjust volume using my wireless Bluetooth headphones.
