From reading all the Hawks news it seems Joel Quenneville will be let go at some point. I hope Flames Management are going to be all over this it will be a massive massive upgrade!
I also see the Oilers going after him.

A few teams including likely the Oilers will be courting him so he’s going to be able to pick and choose. Has Treliving hired anyone to date that he doesn’t have prior work experience with? Chances are as with Boudreau he wouldn’t even be considered as guys like Tippett with past relationships would likely be the target of the Flames miss the playoffs.

Not 100% sure but looking at the organizations and timelines I would say no.

Speaking of Burke, where is that guy? It was common for him to do tv and radio interviews in the past to discuss topics related to the Flames but it seems like he has been silent for months now.

The Flames list of coaches owned that team up North until 10 ply soft Gully arrived.
Hartley
B.Sutter
Keenan
Playfair
D.Sutter
Flames dominated Edmonton for most of the past 15 years or at least won their fair share of games. Butter soft Gully
0-7 he should be fired on that alone.

To be fair he's the President not the GM an any critical comments he make could be stepping on Treliving's toes. People criticize Burke for being a blowhard and when he's silent he also gets criticized. Can't have it both ways. We don't want go back to the days of Ken King as President when he was front and center on the airwaves being a mouthpiece.

Firing a coach for his record against one team would be a terrible way to make a decision. This is similar to the mentality from Stamps fans that "the only game that matter is Labor Day". Yeah that was really great when the team couldn't win a game under Larry Q but managed to pull out a Labor Day win.
It sucks to lose to Edmonton but from a rational point of view, the point given up to LA is FAR more meaningful.

Agreed. He did end the Honda Center curse after all. That said if they miss the playoffs I will personally pack his bags and drive him to the airport.

One thing that GG needs to look at is better balance in our top 9 once Frolik is back. 3rd line has dropped off again and it's hurting this team.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Mangiapane - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Bennett
Tkachuk has had his time riding shotgun on Backlund's line and IMO he is a good enough player to drive offense on his own line, especially against favorable match ups.
I would love to see Mangiapane get a look there. He is pretty stout defensively, has high IQ, and is extremely talented. Time for him to get his mentorship on the Backlund line like Tkachuk and Bennett got in the past.
If not Mangiapane then maybe call up Klimchuk - who has been praised for his IQ and 200ft game throughout his development.

Given their almost identical highs and lows in the 2 seasons he's had I would think even a playoff berth doesn't guarantee he sticks around. They need a series win. Or two.
I was very happy with the stick toss, the emotion and the results that followed. I was very, very critical prior to that. I wanted to rescind my vote to fire him. I want him to succeed and the team to succeed. But facts are facts and the results and the bizarre pattern of replication they exhibit are the most telling.

I don't understand this logic at all. Anytime you give up points to a doormat of a team, it is literally the worst thing that can happen. These are supposed to gimmies for teams with post season aspirations. The Oilers (and Buffalo) are teams that most other playoff teams beat, with regularity, because they are so bad night in and night out. The Flames cannot seem to accomplish this feat twice in one week and this is somehow less meaningful than the LA loss?
Given the situation, last night was actually the most astounding loss I've seen in a while considering they've shown no response or will to change after four straight games that are basically carbon copies of each other - dismal PP, no emotion, taking the foot off of the gas.

Agreed. If they miss the playoffs there should be changes.
I do worry about the teams' inability to get up for big games. And I do think the Oilers are in their heads - which speaks to that the team isn't mentally tough enough.
I look at a guy like Tkachuk who responds in exactly the right way to be challenged. They need more guys like him. Too many are easy to knock off their game.

i realized this week a lot of CP members have the same problem as the Flames - just shrugging their shoulders when the team mails it in against bottom feeders - happy to take the loser point.

For me, the team's response was quite telling. They follow up that show of emotion from their coach with some of the best hockey they've played under his reign. Now this is a group clearly starving for some emotion, passion again and they aren't getting it from the staff or leadership group nearly enough. The "it's just another game" rhetoric is getting old. Hockey is meant to be a passionate and intense game.

OK well if you want to take the assessment do it properly and look at their record against teams below them in the standings and see if they are good at netting the points or not. I have no idea if they are.
But to make the conclusion over the record against the Oilers is more of an emotional response than a rationale evaluation. That's my point.
What they do against the Oil doesn't really matter more than what they do against any of the other 29 teams.

It can't just be on the coaches to provide that.
And I think Gio is a guy that does step up in big games and clearly gives an eff.
Tkachuk is another.
But at some point it has to come from within, or you have to start asking if that fire in the belly actually exists.

The whole emotions argument is so dumb. You have no idea what happens behind closed doors. All you care about is what you see on TV, the guys are not watching TV during games and practices. Bob Hartley was a gem to the media but behind close doors, most people hated him.
If you think GG walks into the room and is like "lets go have fun" or "better luck next time boys, we'll give it a go", or his mannerisms with the team is "boring" like on TV, you are absolutely out of your mind.

He doesn't say that, but he sure talks up being a "players coach". It seems to me the best coaches are not the players coaches, but the hard butts that drive players hard.
