That means the Flames would get a 23 year old RW and a 21 year old right handed defense man. And doing this would potentially shuffle the roster and guys would be moved out to upgrade other players or re-aquire those picks. Would you guys give up the compensation of our:
2016 1st (Hamilton)
2016 2nd (Toffoli)
2016 3rd (Hamilton)
EDIT: Might be smart to mention that the Bruins currently have $4,881,190 in cap to resign 5 UFAs and 2 RFAs
and the Kings have $9,052,273 to resign 5 UFAs and 4 RFAs. So this might make their GMs think before matching those instantly. Just an idea.
(I vaguely remember someone saying compensation picks for the players would be NEXT year as the 2015 draft would have already happened)

Toffoli wouldn't sign that offer sheet. Hamilton only if it's 5 for 8 years, maybe.

The only small chance any offer sheet to Hamilton wouldn't be matched is if the compensation was 4 1st round picks. The same goes for any of the big RFA players.
Boston, Chicago, LA are all in cap hell but they have assets that are desirable in a trade. For instance Saad signs an offer sheet that would get the Hawks a 1st and 3rd as compensation. If they really need that money they can flip an asset like Sharp for a lesser return to clear the cap so they keep their 22 year old long term.
LA, Boston, Chicago likely all have to trade expensive pieces off their roster to kee their kids but they will do it. Guys that we could target in those situations are guys like Martinez, Sharp, or Lucic

Exactly, it's like what the sharks did to the hawks with the Hjarlmnsonorwhatever offer sheet and then signing Neimi. It would be like the B's could just sign Hamilton to an expensive contract and then just make a trade to make everything better. They'd be forced to make a trade and take less in a return. They'd most likely match any offer sheet given to Hamilton but then they wouldn't be able to keep all the assets they have now and then the Flames could target a player on the current roster they wanted. It would be great if it happened to the Hawks or Kings and they were forced to trade away some good players like you said because it would make those teams easier to face and catch in a race for the playoffs.
I'm a fan of offer sheets if they're done properly, so basically any offer sheet not made by the oilers.

Bruins will get another $4 million when Marc Savard goes on LTIR. They probably move out the contracts of Kelly and Eriksson before they let Hamilton go for only $5 million.
Kings are likely buying out Richards this summer. Voynov might not be back. Regehr, Williams and Stoll are not coming back and will be replaced with younger cheaper players

In the cases of the Hawks and Kings, I hope that it's another team that gives out offer sheets as they'll likely be matched and then the Flames can swoop in and hopefully pick up some valuable assets cheap.

Sharp is as good as gone from the Hawks. I wonder what the cost would be to acquire him? At 32 I don't see Treliving being willing to offer up prime assets but maybe he would part with one of the second rounders?

Actually he's 33.
The Hawks are in tough, so it wouldn't be a high aquisition cost, but I'm betting he goes to an eastern contender.

That won't be a compliance buyout though, will it?

According to Friedman the asking price for Sharp was Joel Ward + 1st at the trade deadline and Capitals turned down the deal because Trotz really wanted to keep Ward.

Compliance buyouts are done, but their only other options are to trade him with a lot of assets to get rid of him, trade him with retained salary, or buy him out.
Buying him out now saves them cap space in the near future without giving up any assets.
No Buyout
2015-16 $5.75
2016-17 $5.75
2017-18 $5.75
2018-19 $5.75
2019-20 $5.75
vs Buying him out this summer
2015-16 $1.217
2016-17 $1.717
2017-18 $2.717
2018-19 $4.217
2019-20 $4.217
2020-21 $1.467
2021-22 $1.467
2022-23 $1.467
2023-24 $1.467
2024-25 $1.467
Even though cap hits of the buyout in 18/19 and 19/20 suck, they are still less than if they keep him on the roster then.

That's too much for Sharp IMO. He's lost a step now and while still a good player isn't worth Ward + 1st IMO.

Then he was dealing from strength, this off season he will be dealing from (cap) weakness so the asking price will lower.
I think a 2nd and a C prospect is realistic.

If it only costs a 2nd and a prospect, then we should do it. Would definitely help our 2nd line with some secondary scoring.

That was the deadline price. Those are already inflated. The off season is where the right deal can be had.

I don't see Sharp as a solution here so I wouldn't be willing to give up value of more than a 4th round pick.

He'd be worth picking up even it's just to flip him at the deadline if the Flames are out of it. I think he'd be a good mentor and possible replacement for Hudler in the future.

He's older and not as good as Hudler.

It's not like we are going to re-sign him. We'll use him for those 2 years and then both will part ways. The 5.9m will be spent elsewhere.
