Pretty much. Pretty illogical to leave your best taker for last when he isn't even guaranteed to kick. Bank all those goals you can instead of hoping he can "close it out".

Canadians still didn't understand what penalty shots are back then. They were thinking they would blow every team away that they don't need penalty shots...

Your best shooter should always kick first and then you can maybe hide a less experienced taker 2nd.

A lot of teams also have their captain shoot first, leading from the front as they say, but that burns a lot of teams, like Virgil today.

It was Ray Bourque but ya, sort of.

Garbage sportsmanship from a totally classless Argentina side.

Meanwhile, after Brazils loss, one of the sons of the Croatian players consoled a grief stricken Neymar

I think Neymar advocated for himself to go last so he can have the glory.

I base this on nothing, I am purely speculating. But he seems like that guy.

Kilbane missed a decisive penalty in 2002 for Ireland, he knows what he's talking about.

That Argentina picture is completely fake isn't it?

I don’t know about the Argentina picture but the Croatian picture is misleading. Doesn’t tell the whole story.

What actually happened is the Croatian kid went to hug Neymar and Neymar proceeded to dive backwards 8 feet and roll around for 10 minutes acting like he’d been shot.

I mean, they would be looking right in the direction of their bench there, no?

If you zoom out, that's probably exactly where they're looking.
I'm sure some gloating is happening too but the pic is likely misleading.

It was a testy match both ways to say the least; I'm not sure a Dutch win would have gotten different reactions from their players.
There's probably some good gloating photos after the tying goal if you look for it too.

Unless 19 has no sense of direction he is looking directly at the Netherlands players.

The crying about celebrations is amusing, its hard to score a goal in Soccer. When you score its a special moment, when you win for your country its a special moment.

No one called the Croatian a scumbag for taking of his jersey to celebrate.

People loved when Rasmus and Lucic did their little celebration after a goal.

I think the difference is that it appears like the Argentina players are mocking the Dutch players.

In your example of the Croatia player taking his shirt off, that is a pretty typical celebration in soccer and it wasn’t mocking anyone.

I don’t know if the photo of Argentina is out of context or not though.

I actually came away from that match not liking the Dutch players. Felt like they were very chippy and dirty and Argentina were just willing to fight back and play the same game.

I don't why it ever became a thing or where it started, but I always thought it was dumb too.

I also think shortening words unnecessarily like "celly" is a bit silly but .

Anyway, only caught the end of the Argentina game but what's the history of soccer and ending games with the shootout? Two games ending this way is pretty crappy of a sport. There is strategy, no doubt about it but it's like playing a different game altogether just to come to a conclusion. I wonder if they'd ever consider doing a 8 on 8 or something like that to end games. It really takes away from the sport when sports do this nonsense.
