Denis had a valid point there, the ball kid was still moving and right in his line of vision, the umpire should have halted play. Shapo breaks RBA on the very next point.

The Shapo backhand is a thing of beauty, but that forehand is also very sweet.

Denis unable to consolidate, RBA breaks back converting his 9th chance to break. Then Denis comes back and murders him on the first point of the next game... now three break points of his own. That is just demoralizing. This is so fun to watch, especially what he's doing on RBA's serve.

Meanwhile, the battle of the K's (Khachanov versus Korda) is deep in the 5th set.
Edit: Khachanov prevails 10-8 in the 5th set and will play the winner of Shapo - RBA

Heck of a shot by RBA, I don't think Shapo hesitated at all like the commentator said, he just didn't quite get the angle on that volley. Credit to RBA though, he ran it down and made a fine shot.

I don't know if you want to say hesitated, but after missing the easiest volley in the world at 3-3 30-30 on RBA's last service game he didn't go for the kill, preferring to just make it in. Which I don't blame him on at all, he should do that every time. It's a winner almost always. If the opponent makes that shot, tip your cap.
Great service game to stay in the set from Denis, pressure back to RBA.

Come on Denis, finish this off so we can all turn to the Felix - Zverev match.
Edit: Job done!

The commentator in the last game said of Denis, "he doesn't make it easy on himself, does he," and then later, "he makes the difficult look so easy"... I'm pretty sure those two comments sum up Denis pretty perfectly. Even that last service game, getting behind, but then pulling it out. Everything's a roller coaster ride, even the straight sets wins, but he is hitting the ball amazingly well when he gets into a rally.
Kachanov isn't going to be any easier.

If there's a streakier player on the ATP tour than Shapo, it might be Khachanov. When the Russian is on, he looks like a top 5 player, but when he's off, he's really off. At any rate, it's a great opportunity for Denis to make the semi-finals.

Yeah, I haven't watched any of KK's matches at this Wimbledon but just based on the fact that he's in the QF I have to assume he's on form. But he did just play a 5 setter so that may weigh in Denis's favour, and Denis will be the first seeded player he has to face, so... I guess we shall see.
Felix has calmed down after two double faults in the first service game but can't quite get the break. Man, watching Zverev serve you just think, "what if either of these Canadians could do that".

Loving the game of Shapo at Wimbledon this year. I'm not sure how he would match up against Djokovic but I think if he keeps this firepower he can cause some damage.

Thoughts from first set of Felix / Zverev...
1. Felix just doesn't have a tight enough game to go on deep runs. It's sort of like Denis with consistency except that Denis has a lot of ebbs and flows within a match; Felix is just sort of scattershot from start to finish. Until he can get it together, his service games are just too vulnerable and he's always on the defensive trying to avoid being broken, which totally undermines the aggressive, physical style he should be playing.
2. They really, really need to stop cutting the grass so short. Tons of players are slipping all over the place, especially when it's a bit wet. Why do this? Whose decision was this? Fire them immediately.
3. This has always bugged me... if you're serving, and you keep dumping your big first serve into the net, maybe take something off of it and just get a couple in? Maybe this is impossible just because of how dialed in peoples' serve motions are, they have to try to hit it the same every time, but it's just so frustrating to watch. It's like watching an NBA player miss five three pointers in a row... just get in the paint, dude, it's not falling.

there isn't a damn thing our Canadian boys need to borrow from Zverev, either on court or off ( especially off). by the time Felix and Shapo are Zverev's current age, they will have surpassed him easily and be helping relegate him to the dustbin of tennis history.

I think people forget how young Felix is, hes still only 20. Unless your last name is Nadal your going to struggle as a teen/early 20 year old. Go back and even look at Djokovic or Federer at 20 they were routinely losing first round of majors.

Zverev's serve totally abandoned him in that first set. Seems to have adjusted a bit and is now coming in very aggressively. Unfortunate. I was hoping he'd just sulk away the second set too.

I went to drop off my car for service and Felix wins the first set. Maybe I should turn off this match for the greater good?

But then you'd miss awesome rallies like the one in the first point of that service game.

I also see that Fucsovics finally beat Rublev in 2021. Of course, his reward is a quarter-final date with Djoker.
