Wait. So you can leave your starter in with 90 pitches and the 3rd time through the order? Velazquez makes quick work of the Jays in the 6th. 2-1 Phillies.

Whoa. We have only given two runs so far? What sort of voodoo is this.
Hopefully I didn’t jinx it.

Ryu ready to come back for the 7th but pulled in favour of Font is ridiculous. I’m beating a dead horse but this is freaking ridiculous. If Borucki is warming up to face Harper. You let Ryu pitch to the 8-9-1 hitter. He’s at 100 pitches but had thrown significantly more in a game before in his career. Now Font walks a couple guys, Burns through his outing, and Borucki has to come in to a rough situation and likely won’t come back for the 8th. It’s asinine.

I don't know why, but Borucki reminds me of Andrew Miller coming out of the pen. Tall, lanky, good fastball, nasty slider.

Well. They’ll lose at least 3 vs the Yanks with Garcia, Cole, and Tanaka pitching. So now the question is can they eek out a couple of wins with one remaining in Philly and Baltimore next weekend?
Correction Garcia is pitching tomorrow. So it’ll be Happ.

Still some breathing room but a daunting series approaching.
Only good news is the teams beneath us are all basically trash.
Scary that the trash birds have 3 against us to end it, so if they pull within 3 look out.
2020, we just can’t have nice things.

More frustration with Montoyo managing the pitching staff. IMO, he has no feel for them - he doesn't seem able to make adjustments based on the game situation and how the pitcher feels. He seems to follow the gameplan, regardless.
Tonight's examples of this was pulling Ryu for Font, when the 8 and 9 hitters were due up. Then Font doesn't get it done, so Borucki has to come in earlier than necessary. Nonetheless, he pitches great. However, instead of running with the hot hand, they make the change because a rightie is coming up. But Cole isn't hot. Another run scores, making it a 2 run game before the 9th. Game over.
No one can play their best every night, it isn't humanly possible. So with respect to pitchers, no matter how good a guy is, you never know if he is going to have his good stuff tonight. If a guy IS dealing, you have to run with it because you don't know what the next guy will do.
Bit them twice tonight.

Montoyo couldn't find his belly button if he stood in front of the mirror shirtless.

Pretty quiet in here.
6 solid innings from Walker. They used the fastball more often and it worked - who could have ever predicted that?!

in the top of the 6th, Davis hit a 2-out, 2-run wall banger to give the Jays a 3 run cushion

in the top of the 7th, Bichette drilled a triple off the top the wall, then Hernandez said '#### the wall!' and landed one in the evergreens behind center field to make it 6-1

The jays needed 3 things today:
1) a solid performance from a starter
2) some clutch hits
3) a W
Two down, and one to go.

I just woke up, was pleased to see the score; then the current Jays re-emerged.
The crappy thing about that last play, is if Hatch doesn't deflect that ball, it's probably a DP and we're out of the inning. Instead the circus is town and the clowns have started to emerge from the tiny car.
