I hope they don't go that direction simply because it's already been done, and wasn't that good the first time.
Talk about an understatement.
I'm pretty sure when that episode ended there was the 'disappointed groan heard 'round the World' from the cumulative Star Trek fans.
I hope they go off-the-board. Do something fun! Time vortex or some nonsense! Both sets of characters have the cred to pull it off. Go BIG! Be creative! Lock Kurtzmann in the broom closet!

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
After rewatching ST: Beyond lately, I really hope that if Star Trek doesn't move into the future past the Picard era, then they explore more of the time between Enterprise and TOS. The USS Franklin was a really cool design, and with a 100 year gap between Archer and Kirk there should be lots of good stories they could do about the early years of the Federation
"the lost era" has commonly been desired setting throughout history, so the time over Ent B and C. Don't know if I have ever heard anyone particularly interested in the archer-kirk time period... it might be interesting I suppose.
I'd prefer lost era. Cardassian war at the tail end might be fun.
But best would still be new stories and new species from the time beyond. Society since the millenium has been steeped towards retreading existing lore and retelling stories from different angles. IMO this is especially tiresome for a theme like science fiction, which is supposed to be about telling new stories and using existing angles to show that even humans in ridiculous future settings have every day problems like the rest of us.

Also Hemi, no one did at the time, but I have to profoundly disagree with your enterprise purism. IMO the SNW model is a gorgeous adaptation. The extra lines in the saucer make it seem more realistic to me.

I'd like to see something in the space between the 5 year mission and TMP. They could do stories of what chased Spocko out of Star Fleet, Kirk being kicked upstairs. Bones growing his epic beard and buying leisure suits. Scotty refitting the Enterprise.

Lol i know you are jesting but you've triggered me so hard. I have no doubt that Abrams and Kurtzman fantasize about exactly this.

When was the last time a Star Trek episode in any series did it without the Captain. I mean he had two minutes, then like, here's key's byee.
This goes to what I do love about this series. Its what Star Trek is suppossed to be, but its been forgotten.
the original Star Trek was ensemble, every character rounded out, everyone of them felt important. Without all of these characters the enterprise doesn't work.
With discovery I called most of the characters furniture, even when they were given a story line, you just didn't care. But in this series, every character is important and just doesn't sit in the background mashing buttons.
A great way to start the season with the Klingons. But maybe I'm old and have forgotten.
In Enterprise the Klingons tried to replicate Khan's super serum, and as a result they went smooth heads. I'm not touching the Klingons in discovery, because they were terrible. But in the original series they were still smooth heads. But these ones were hugely ridge heads. Did I forget something?
The cinematography just works, its not busy like Discovery. I don't know if I liked the flippy camera stuff.
Ok, I love Carol Kane, shes just so fracking charming . . . . and insane. She and Chapel (who I think is awesome) are must watch.
