No, maybe don't put a picture up at all, or use this one:

Spoiler!

Alleged? Probably not the right word to use, this guy is 100% certifiably guilty beyond reasonable doubt, the trial should be a mere formality you would expect.

A big lol at the outrage over your own perceived "glamour".

I was trying to adhere to innocent until proven guilty.

Speaking of "alleged"...

Couldn't he, hypothetically, sue Rolling Stone for labeling him as "The Bomber".
Everyone knows he did it, but isn't there still a law that they always have to say "Alleged" Bomber?

Yes. They were talking about wanting to prove his innocence. It's predictable that this would happen.

NY Times used the same picture.

Spoiler!
Why not use his mugshot, or better yet not use a rockstar picture.

Unfortunately for Rolling Stone people do not view them as a news magazine or anything close. Most people view it as a pop culture/music magazine that generally releases terrible music lists. They almost always have a celebrity or musician on the cover, and its gotta be 1 out of maybe ever 60 issues they'll have a news story or more likely a political one. Like most magazines you need something good on the cover, and for Rolling Stone news doesn't help them sell.

So while the picture itself is definitely not the best choice, its more about the expectations most people have of Rolling Stone. You don't expect to see a guy who allegedly murdered 3 people on the cover, and doing so is giving him fame whether that was their intention or not. I have no problem with the article, but make it the banner headline and have Willie getting high on the bus as the picture. Everyone is cool with seeing that.

It's a $15 armani exchange t shirt. Honestly he looks like a creep to me, not a rock star

I have seen that guys face all over every tv station, newspaper and website. Why can't Rolling Stone do the same?

Look at the covers they used of Jim Morrison and you'll see what they were going for.
It's disgusting what Rolling Stone is doing and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Solid tweet...

Nick Stadler ‏@Nickadoo 54m Dzhokhar Tsarnaev landed the cover of Rolling Stone by riding the coattails of his dead brother. He's like the Jim Belushi of terrorism.

What were they going for? Jim Morrison was a rock star who had been dead for 10 years when that cover came out. Where is the connection? Is it the curly hair?

I'm surprised at all the outrage over this. Now sure, they are courting controversy and sales with the choice of cover photo, but that's kind of the deal in the media. Rolling Stone isn't alone, and they didn't invent it. And it's not like they did a photo shoot here, going into the jailhouse with professional lighting and a makeup artist. It's probably a screengrab from a facebook page.

Really, it all seems like "how dare they show this kid looking like a human being!" even though they call him the bomber right on the cover, and a monster in the story (or at least the press release).

Like someone mentioned above, would devil horns and a curly moustache been more appropriate?

I think he'd have to prove he didn't do it if he wanted to sue for libel.
