Kyrou had as many playoff goals this past year as Tkachuk has in his career. And he didn't have a guy like Gaudreau playing with him

That is poor negotiating practice.

That's not how it works when it comes to a star like Tkachuk. GM's do this all the time, and yes-you take the best offer within those parameters that you set. Or, you can settle for a first, Hanowski, and Agostino.

Glad you’re not negotiating for the Flames.
35 year old worn out players get best offers of a first, Hanowski, and Agostino.
24 year old 100 point players get a tad more.

Yeah you make it clear that there are many teams looking for his services. This is a huge opportunity to hit the rebuild home run.

My post was in response to some of the proposals that had Tkachuk getting traded for older players, 1 for 1's, etc- and I said you don't accept less than those 3 assets (young roster player, prospect, and a first), especially for a 24 year old, 100 pt player. GM's are quoted all the time about setting this price for star players, this isn't something I came up with on my own.

He had 3 more goals, wow! How many regular season goals did he have? How many points? How much can Kyrou change the game by being a total ass? How physical is he? I would be willing to make a large wager all 32 NHL GM's given the choice between the two would take Tkachuk every time. The NHL is loaded with skill wingers, how many legit 100 point power forwards are there? Add in the marketing of bringing in the hometown kid whose father is a legend there and you think they wouldn't move Kyrou for him? Think about it.

Are we taking cap back? Pretty hard to fit in a winger with 8 digits likely to his name.

You do except those deals if you feel they carry the most value, and or ownership has mandated you build a winner.

If STL isn't giving value on Tkachuk you shop him at 25% salary to Colorado, Minnesota, Dallas and Nashville. See if that changes their tone.

Especially if there’s more than one team in the running.

There’s no contract currently to salary retain 25 % of; Flames need to find a suitor that knows they’ll be able to extend Tkachuk to an 8 year deal and there should be a good amount of teams wanting that.
Part of me wants to trade Tkachuk to Columbus because I feel him and Johnny really didn’t like each other. It would be hilarious if we could get Liane + unprotected 1st + Nyquist (cap dump) + prospect

25% of what salary? He'd have to be signed first.
Heavy Jack beat me to it.

You would think it would be a monster package compared to the Iginla deal. Jarome made it clear he would only go to one team. Have to think anything less than an absolute stud piece under the age of 25, multiple first round picks and a prospect would be a fail this time.

Obviously waiting for the arbitrated contract. You could start having those conversations now though as we know about what that number will look like.

I meant retaining 75% through a third party.

It's a little surprising how quiet things have been around Tkachuk since the announcement of team elected arbitration. No insiders tweeting about it, not much from the team or his agent.
