For us peasants without AC at home... does anyone use MERV13 furnace filters (combined with running your furnace circulation fan) to help filter out the smoke?
I have a very "regular", 22-year-old, not high efficiency furnace. Am I going to burn out the fan by using a MERV13 filter?
I have never been able to justify AC at home for the heat in this climate, but the smoke might be the tipping point. It definitely isn't just a "one smoky summer" thing at this point.

For what it's worth, 2020 was a dry smoky 'Spring' which turned into a wet/cool clear sky summer (also included the Jun 13 storm that destroyed homes east of airport NE). Spring 2022 was also hot/dry but June turned into a wet/cool month with fresh snow in the mountains, rain here in town.
There's still hope but it sure would be nice to see some 80-100% POP in the forecast for all of Alberta.

EVERLAST is the expert here, but I was under impression using one for short durations should not kill your furnace. More long term thing.

I think it's one of the first times we got the smoke from fires in Alberta. It was always BC or California before so it was not as intense or close.

we are all wearing masks inside at our offices right now. But we work inside one of the oldest buildings in Calgary. Ventilation and hvac sucks here.
They should have filmed some of the scenes for The Last of Us today.

It's so smoky in downtown that whatever natural light is coming through the window of my home office is screwing up the white balance on my video in my conference calls.
Of course I slept with the windows open until I woke up smelling like campfire at 2:30 AM.
