I think modern post-colonialist capitalist societies are in a pretty good place compared to the history of humanity but we have a ways to go yet.

Possibly true, although I would argue that aboriginal societies pre-European contact exhibited very few of the negative traits we are recognizing. Also, there is a very distinct and insidious undercurrent of racism underpinning all colonialist histories.

Despite the negatives, there is no doubt that by any measure the state of the world for humans is the best it has ever been.

I would be shocked if ethnocentrism wasn't at the root of many of the conflicts in Pre-Columbian North and Mesoamerica.

Likely, true, but irrelevant to a discussion about colonialism and the modern world. We are talking about powerful nation states with a global reach and overwhelming technological advantages forcibly seizing resources and land from native peoples all the while justifying it and even lauding themselves for their efforts in the name of god and country. The comparison to inter-tribal warfare in mesoamerica is laughably naive at best.
