I don't know about affecting attempts to sell, but I imagine it's having a pretty significant impact on other teams' interest in buying.

Could a team get a player from Van and then tell him to stay home for a week or two without using a roster spot on him? I feel like there has to be some wiggle room for teams to take guys off their active roster if they think they can infect the rest of the team

I would take a chance but if it costs more than a Shinkaruk or Poirier or a 3rd no thanks, he just isn't that good.

Well, he was the main piece going to ARI in the Yandle trade, so i wouldn't say that they moved out from him.
No one can deny that Domi was the driver between those two, but you still gotta be pretty damn skilled to score 20 goals as a 20 year old.
Fast, skilled and he's got a killer release. Could be a potential replacement for Versteeg next to Bennett. Not sure why he's struggling so much this year. If the price is right, why not?

Mumps has a short life span.
Trade for the player then quarantine them for a week. They should be clear by then.

Armia would be someone I'd like to pursue, I wanted him back in his draft year. He's big, can hit, skates well and is RHS RW. An added bonus if I remember in his draft year interviews he said Calgary was the team he hoped would draft him. Ill try to find a source for that when I get some time.

Armia has been on my radar for quite some time as well, and you are right in that his favorite team was in fact the Flames, but he has not developed very slowly and is expansion eligible.
I am not sure what his upside is any longer, but over a tonne of prospects have passed over him in Winnipeg. I mean that in the literal usage of tonne - 1,000 kgs worth of prospects. Flame would have to be convinced that he is worth acquiring and worth using a protection slot with him. I am not sure he is worth it, to be honest, though he may very well be one of those slower-developing players with lots of room for development still. I don't really know, other than he has been underwhelming thus far, with occasional flashes of brilliance.

Armia is like a wing version of Colborne.

Armia is one step away from being a brilliant third line forward. He has size and great stick handling which really helps in puck battles. At his best he's been great in that role this season, not a tweener but a genuinely strong defensive forward, but I still have the impression that he is not totally consistent.
Could be that his injury disrupted what should have been his break out year. Much like when he was a kid he has the hands to score from close to the net but I don't expect him to become a scoring forward. I've seen him play an excellent defensive game, winning tons of battles, disrupting the opponent's PP and so on.

Its funny with the expansion draft and wondering who to protect. But there are going to be a lot of players exposed that are probably better options for LA then Armia. If he's somebody that doesn't cost a lot and helps the team this year, then you can't worry about losing him as a minor piece.
Its weird because he was so heavily hyped not that long ago and has really gone nowhere.

I did not realize he was expansion eligible. If that's the case I think it would be a better move to acquire him in the offseason as a potential Chiasson replacement.

As far as I see, Winnipeg is better off keeping Armia since he is a player with a clear role on the team and wouldn't bring a significant return. He's not really a prospect they expect to blossom into something else, he is a third line guy whose value will rise as he proves that he can be consistent.

What teams are going to have trouble keeping forwards in expansion?
Flames have room to protect one more forward if they decide that Ferland is protected but Brouwer can be exposed.
Flames likely expansion list
Forwards:
1- Gaudreau
2- Monahan
3- Bennett
4- Backlund
5- Frolik
6- Ferland (possible)
7- Brouwer (possible)
Defense
1- Hamilton
2- Brodie
3- Giordano
Goalie

Brouwer being a guy that probably could be not protected and not get picked up creates space for the Flames to pick up a core guy.
there's no question that Ferland gets protected, Vegas would jump all over him, If the Flames don't make a core add on they can protect 4 defensemen can't they, which means that if Stone indicates that he wants a new deal here you sign him and protect him.

I believe it's 7F 3D or 4F and 4D. If they protect 4D, guys like Ferland/Frolik will be exposed.

Stone won't be protected. He's played good in his short time here but he's definitely not the type of D-man that will be protected. This is the same argument some used thinking Jokipakka had to be protected.

We should have a trade deadline countdown in the top right where we have a "time to New season" countdown.
*That said, a countdown to every Flames puck drop would be cool.

Can't see us protecting 4 dmen, leaves us exposing too many good forwards.

Fair points, I would rather protect the 7 forwards and 3 blueliners, even though I'm still kind of convinced that LV would take Brouwer if he was exposed.

Would be an interesting strategy to expose Brouwer to protect Stone. The idea being that LV would be more likely to take Brouwer and since there's a limit of one player picked per team, Stone would be safe. That's of course assuming that LV values Brouwer over Stone.
