Yea essentially this. He'd still probably be able to provide secondary scoring if put with a decent energy line, with someone like Jankowski at C and Ferland on LW. Considering how much easier the minutes would be on the 3rd line, I can see them putting up a decent chunk of offence.

Hey, that line actually doesn't sound so bad in theory.

I was totally against Iginla coming back until I looked at this line. 2nd rounder and granlund at most. Contract is bad

Flames can't afford to take on Iggy without sending close to equal money back.

Do you even watch Iginla play?
Slap shot from the top of the circles is certainly not his game, and never was actually. LOL.

What's his game then since you seem so well informed. Seems to me he's a shadow of his former self. He was a power forward, who was excellent in the corners and coming off the half boards. Now he stands around in the offensive end with his stick cocked.

Come on, he quit doing his power move to the net before he left the Flames.

Iginla's proven himself to be a 60-pt winger the last two seasons. Obviously that's no guarantee he will replicate that success this season, but 8 points in 11 games so far is right on par for the course, especially impressive on a struggling team like the Avs. He's got pretty good linemates with MacKinnon and Tanguay right now, but Bennett and Gaudreau would elevate his production even more.
Why do some of you find the contract bad? Is it because he's nearing 40? Is it because of the AAV?
You still have to take his production into consideration. Avalanche saw a 60 pt scoring winger in him after his season with the Bruins, and are paying for a 60 pt winger. They got a 60ish pt season out of him on the first year of that, and looks well on his way on replicating that. So why is it bad if he's still able to produce as hoped?
If we pick him up off the Avs it'll only be at one of the deadlines, probably in his contract year, and we'll easily have the room for the $5.3 mill in cap space.

Uh. MacKinnon and Tanguay are no slouches. In fact Tanguay is pretty much the player with the greatest chemistry with Iggy.
I doubt Bennett and Gaudreau would improve on Iggy’s scoring over those two. They haven't even been able to find much success between them let alone helping the RW out.

Instead of continuing to discuss a nonsensical rumor that won't happen, here's an article from Bruins beat writer who mentions Kris Russell as a possibility for the Bruins, albeit further down the list. I imagine Treliving as asking for a premium and given the other options out there and reluctance on the Bruins part to mortgage their future, doubt this comes to fruition.
http://www.csnne.com/boston-bruins/h...top-four-d-man
Veteran guys like Carl Gunnarsson and Kris Russell are also options as well, but would only be worth it if the Bruins really didn’t have to mortgage future assets that they value highly. There’s a limit to how much better players like that would make the Bruins, but the bottom line is that whoever is playing with Chara this season – whether it’s Kevan Miller or one of the young guys – isn’t really a proper top pairing D-man that the Bruins would ideally like to have in that spot. That will be a major weakness on this team until it’s addressed, and will be truly exacerbated if the 38-year-old Chara goes down again with another injury.

Didn't think Wiz got them a second, thought it was Bourque, a third and some no name prospect. Which is the equivalent of a grab bag of crap. My mistake guys.

Wideman played 3rd pairing in Washington? Man he was one hell of a 3rd pairing defenseman with 46 points and being named to the all-star game

The Wideman 3rd pairing comments come from him being moved to the 3rd pairing when the Capitals went to the play-offs that year.
Wideman had a very hot start that year offensively that year which resulted in his All-Star game and then reverted back to his normal trainwreck defensively so he was put on the 3rd pairing in the play-offs to limit the damage he could do to the Capitals.

Okposo doesn't make sense really unless you can sign him to an extesion and getting him signed to an extension will likely cost 7+ million if rumors are true. Not sure we have that kind of money to toss out. I like the player but I'm not completely sold on him either.

The only reason the Flames should trade for a pending UFA is if a contract extension is already in place and agreed upon. Okposo would be a good fit on this team but if the claims of around 7 mil are true, it's a huge pass. I really hope the Flames are identifying who is part of the future soon so they can negotiate extensions. If guys like Hudler or Russell are wanted but the team can't afford them then I hope management is already shopping them

LOL at anyone who wouldn't trade Mason Raymond for Iggy. Iggy could be used or easily be flipped for something where as Raymond has an absolute negative value.

I wonder if a Russell for Loui Erickson deal would be fair... Weren't the Flames interested in him in the past? Good defensive forward with above average skill. Don't recall his contract exactly, but I think it's about 4.5mil not sure th e term left on it. Maybe we send a cap dump like Raymond too?

I'm not sold on Erickson for a few reasons; his injury history, he's not that dynamic forward the team needs IMO and his contract is up this year so dealing for a pending UFA would be a waste unless an extension was in place.
If the ducks are seriously considering making a trade to shake things up, there are a few players I'd like off of that roster.
