Are you with CFD? You might have answered that before, but I missed it.

18 inches in my basement. Not the worst, but I was hoping for better.

From a source in your link:

Quote:
Polling done this month for IBC found 91 per cent of Canadians have noticed a change in weather patterns over the past decade, but only 80 per cent of Albertans had spotted a trend.
Quote:
A recent study prepared for IBC by the Institute for Catastrophic Loss and Reduction predicts Alberta will see a 10 per cent increase in severe weather events by 2050 as average annual temperatures in the province rise up to four degrees Celsius as a result of global warming.

The report says the result will be drought conditions and shortages of potable water in fast-growing cities like Calgary.

Combined with a 20 per cent increase in lightning frequency, the dry conditions will increase the likelihood of wildfires similar to the Slave Lake disaster two years ago.

Rainstorms, when they come, will be more intense and could cause flash-flooding in low-lying areas and overwhelm existing storm sewer systems.

John Pomeroy, the Canada research chair in Water Resources and Climate Change at the University of Saskatchewan, has studied rainfall records on the Prairies for the past century and found a marked increase in the number of multi-day rain events during the summer that can overwhelm streams and rivers.

“Those big frontal systems are increasing in their intensity and frequency,” said Pomeroy, “and we’re fast learning that our roads, our bridges and even some of our towns aren’t any match for the rainfall and the overflow that results.”

While Alberta’s infrastructure is better able to withstand the threat of increased flooding than that in other Western provinces, he said there are areas like the Cougar Creek subdivision in Canmore that are especially vulnerable.

It doesn't seem to be a problem, but I would really think twice about heading down to that area right now.

Just seems unnecessary.
The problem with that map is it's out of date I think, or not complete - the downtown evacuation, for example, comprises a far wider swath of land now that indicated on that map (basically all of it down to 12th ave)

Born and raised in Calgary, and I think it is a fact that the water table east of town completely changed in 2005. If you drove along 84th 9 years age and drove along it any time in the last 8 years its easy to see.

What was Deerfoot like today? Just curious as I need to take 64th -> Deerfoot (N) -> Stoney tomorrow. A friend texted me to say it was closed, but I couldn't find anything online confirming that.

Is the following route available? -- Crowchild from the University, exit onto Glenmore Trail up to MacLeod, exit at Chinook Centre, up to Midnapore.

From the city of calgary website:
Quote:
SB Crowchild Trail north of Kensington closed due to intersection flooding
So I am guessing the first part of your trip is hooped. The rest looks to be open possibly.

Crowchild traffic was diverted at Kensington Rd. Go the other way - University down Shaganappi to Memorial and then connect on Crowchild (did that in the inverse yesterday).

The pathway along the river is all flooded...saw that on a helicopter shot a bit ago.

For the second time now, when I open City News Blog, my Firefox freezes and then crashes, so I have to force quit everything. Anyone else had this issue?

People need to stay home unless it is an emergency. Leave the streets free for vehicles that actually have important work to do.
