So, I'm a wuss when it comes to movies and easily jump at things. Based on JJ Abrams style, I'm expecting plenty of suddenly loud sounds or things to pop on the screen combined with music to make me jump. Not even necessarily jump-scares from horror movies kind of thing, just quiet followed by really loud things, for example. Star Trek Into Darkness was pretty bad (or the theatre was louder than normal, I couldn't tell) for me for that. Should I expect more of this for Star Wars?

Yeah, what did it gross? Its going to be something obscene.

I must have spoken with a dozen people over the weekend who'd seen it and they'd all seen it a minimum of twice. Some even more.

Anyone know what it brought in?

I would say no. The movie is good enough it doesn't need shock tactics to entertain. Naturally though with any action movie with battles, there are some loud noises that might make you run home to mommy

$240 mil domestic, just under $520 mil worldwide in the opening weekend.

They did, by a little over $4 million.

Here's the full list of records it broke: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4134&p=.htm

Pretty much the only record it didn't break was the biggest Saturday.

Wow. Lots of people really liked Jurassic World that much? I mean, it was a good popcorn flick and I liked it but I didnt think it was that good to hold all of those records.

I agree, that was a surprise to me too when I was looking up the records Star Wars broke. Jurassic World was not a bad movie, but hardly earth shattering, for god sakes it was basically retelling the original story.

Same here, I liked it but in no way was it anything special.

And they blew opening weekend out of the water.

Does anyone know what the budget was?

This movie, plus cross promotion, plus toys, I bet they get a good 75% of their Lucasfilm price tag back from this film alone.

You think they'll generate about $3B?

So you're thinking this is going to be the most successful movie ever?

I'm not challenging you, I've had similar thoughts but not in that range of revenue generation.

What is the current most successful movie ever and how much did it make?

I think the movie will do 2B, and I think all of the other segments will generate about 1B. Avatar is the biggest movie ever at 2.7B, but it had insane international earnings. Way out of whack with what a movie normally does, so I don't know if Star Wars will take that throne.

Jesus. Have you seen it? (I have not)

Is it that good?

Anything that takes that crapstain Avatar off the top of the list.

I have seen it. It's a great big screen movie and it has a lot of nostalgia and some good acting. Jurassic World made 1.7b and there's not much to that movie beside Chris Pratt's performance. The international take there was pretty high too though, so we'll see. China loved Avatar and China loved Jurassic World, but they don't have the history with Star Wars.

It's a tough one to call, but $2B should be realistic. It's already at $600 million worldwide.
