Not sure how true this is, but apparently when SCTV was first being broadcast they gave the laugh track assignment to someone who didn't understand the humor. There were problems with the track overlapping a lot of jokes.

I thought American Dad was one of the best ever! I almost pissed myself laughing at the Nazi Walrus.

They definitely are silly, but laugh tracks aren't to tell people when to laugh, it's because the average person doesn't like to/and subconsciously won't laugh as hard if it is them laughing all by themselves.

Movies don't have laugh tracks because they are typically viewed with others.
Television is mostly a in-home by yourself (or small group) thing.

Sunday nights should be for Mad Men and Dexter not cartoons!

I suggest everyone read Chapter 10 of Chuck Klosterman's "Eating the Dinosaur". It's about laugh tracks and how stupid they are.

Honestly, I watched the first two episodes and I'm done now. Its just not funny, and to me the humor just falls flat.

I agree with you on it needs something more. It isn't a bad show, but isn't a good show either. There is really no character development.
I'm actually pretty surprised the guy from Drew Carry show is on it in such a minor role. I know he isn't too big of a name (I don't even know his name), but you would think he could do something better than this.

I kinda hope it fails so Parks and Rec comes back, very under-rated show.

It will be Outsourced's Jan replacement. It outdrew both 30 Rock and Community which is bonkers so it will probably finish out the season.

The one thing I do have to say about it is; it is lit very well. There is a cool aesthetic to it.

Parks and Rec didn't really do much for me in the beginning so maybe it will get better.

Actually, I'd say all of NBC's Thursday night comedies were pretty weak when they started, but all found their voice within the first half dozen episodes or so.

The 6th season of Nova scienceNOW premieres January 19th on PBS. Been about 16 months since the 5th season ended so I'm looking forward to it. The first episode is "Can We Make it to Mars?"

Nova ScienceNOW is hosted by the always enjyoable, informative, smart as all hell, Neil DeGrasse Tyson

The fifth and final season of Big Love starts next sunday the 16th on HBO.

This show was amazing during the 2nd and 3rd season but last years 4th season wasn't all that great, hopefully it goes out with a bang.

Anyone watch the premier of Bob's Burger's tonight? I thought it was really funny.

Surprised the poster above me doesn't have anything to say about since he is apparently a Dr. Katz fan...
