Wenger only has himself to blame, we could be still playing and Chamakh and Bendtner would be nowhere near the scoresheet.

The one positive here is it has got to be blatantly obvious to everyone that Almunia is even worse than McElheny and has no business in the team anymore.

I still can't believe that he thought the £3 price tag for Schwarzer was too high.

When will he realise that he has no keeper?

Plymouth Argyle deducted 10 points after entering into administration. They are on 33 points, just above the relegation zone.

Lame. Most of my family are from Devon, so I usually try to keep tabs on the Argyle and Exeter City.

There were on 33 points. Now they have 23.

This helps Swindon Town more than anyone!

Yeah, that sucks. I guess they were on 33 before the penalty. Now are on 23, 10 points from safety. They'll be sure to go down. The double relegation is hard to take. Championship one year, League 2 and massive financial problems soon thereafter.

Hope they stay up.

Yeah, it was kind of cool that them and Exeter were in the same league for a year. I've always kind of wondered what a rivalry between some of the Devonshire teams would look like. Mind you, Argyle will have company with Torquay if they go down.

Funny thing with the south coast is that I'm not sure how voracious the football rivalries are. Maybe the Cherries and the Saints don't like each other much, I don't know. I do know that Brighton do not have a south coast derby match and in fact their biggest rival is Palace, located over 40 miles away.

So what happened? I don't know all the details. Did they blow all their Championship tv money on bad things? They were in the Championship for a number of years IIRC.

Problems for Argyle first surfaced when they were placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League at the end of 2009 because of then-unpaid debts to HMRC.
Subsequent relegation from the Championship last season then cut Argyle's income by around £3 million, and in November details emerged of two winding-up petitions from HMRC over further unpaid tax debts of £760,000.
The club then sold several of their star players in January, including Craig Noone and Bradley Wright-Phillips , in an effort to clear the petition debt.
Tax remains a major problem for the Devon-club with their next bill, estimated at £300,000, due on Tuesday.

The Cherries and Saints are one, but the Saints and Gulls is actually a bigger rivalry. However, they haven't met in league play since they were both in the conference in 07/08.

Thanks. It all sounds so fishy.
5? years in the Championship shouldn't all go into smoke from just one relegation. Sounds like they really overspent or something was pocketing money to accumulate that much debt. I'll have to research this. It's all very fascinating.

Lots of guys would have been on Championship wages, and when you go down, the revenue really drops off. Happened when Brighton went up to the Championship a number of years ago. Two seasons there - full Championship wages - then relegation made finances an issue. The differences in wages can be significant between the leagues, plus revenues drop off and the size of the back room staff is usually a lot bigger as well. It is really unfortunate that demotion can cause so many problems, but these clubs all have to spend to try and compete and stay up and when they don't it is usually a problem.

re: Argyle

There was no way they were going to be able to sustain that.

Is that super overspending? Let's compare to a mid-table Championship team today, how much are their wages and salaries? For example Reading? Watford? Leicester City? etc..

found an article from last year about Newcastle where it said the average salary of teams in the championship was around 9m, theirs last year were 39m

and if they hadn't achieved promotion you can imagine the trouble they would have been in
