YES!!!
Duke wins.
Certainly not the most talented team they have had but a team that really complimented each other.
Great job by Butler to get where they did and to push Duke to the limit. They seem legit and have a good shot to get back to the final four again next season.

One of the greatest final games ever, no doubt.
Moon...didn't see the first half, but why Butler's guards (not Haywood) continued to try and penetrate to the block and ended up getting blocked every time was one of the interesting things for me. Stupid.
Coach K had some awesome inbounds plays tonight.
When did Robbie Benson become a basketball coach?

Congrads to Duke but god I can't cheer for the suburban trust fund kids. Would've been such a great ending had he sunk the half court short with the Duke player flopping on the ground

I agree with people saying Duke wasn't the most talented team, but this is a hard working team and worked better together than their teams of the last few years or so. Great group of guys that improved a lot over the last few years. I'm glad they won.
Butler played amazing and it's hard to believe alot of their players are just sophomores. I'm impressed. That was a hell of a game. Just an inch away from history, nothing to be ashamed of.

Early on Haywood was really having trouble with the defense but seemed to get bailed out a few times by just charging into the lane and getting ticky tack fouls ala Dwayme Wade in the 2006 finals.
As for the lack of adjustments I wonder if one of the disadvantages for Butler playing in the small conference is that they don't see teams like Duke that can adjust so quickly defensively or that they can't just beat even if adjustments are made.

Congratulations to all the fans of Duke on the championship. I really like Smith and Singler. Think those two are wonderful players.
To the Butler fans, keep your head high. What a remarkable run that was and you were one shot away from winning it all. Both Duke and Butler will be top 5 in the preseason rankings next year.
Anyways, Butler proved me wrong by keeping the game as close as it was and Duke proved me wrong by winning it all.
As moon said this was not the most talented Duke team, but you do not need to have the most talented team to win. You just have to have cohesion at the right time and go on a run and that is what Duke did at the right time.

I wasn't watching but why didn't Butler take a TO after the missed FT with 3s left?
Did they have none?
I ask because as I was following the game on ESPN.com it said Butler took back-to-back TOs with like 13s left or something.

They used up those 2 because they couldn't get the ball in on an inbounds play.

Wow. That seems like a really unfortunate situation. Looks pretty bad in hindsight.

I don't know if you caught it but they had Hayward throwing the ball in. They say the guy throwing the ball in is the most dangerous. Tough to be dangerous with the ball in the corner like that. Stevens changed the play though and had Howard throw it in and they got a good look that I would think had a great chance at going in.
Zoubec altered it and probably saved the basket for Duke.

But if Butler had a timeout left, Duke wouldn't have purposely missed that last free throw.

Thanks for the explanation but that whole post is gibberish to me. I don't follow basketball so all the names mean nothing and I didn't see it.
Maybe when I watch the replays that'll make more sense.

Right. Still, assuming Duke makes that FT it would have only been a 3pt game and Butler could have used their TO and tried to tie the game.

Not really, if they don't take the TO on the inbounds they'd turn the ball over on a 5 second violation.

This is pretty much it. If you were watching that game, Butler had no options on the inbound they were forced to take the timeout on. Duke had excellent coverage.

I think that if you have the whole back court there should always be open on an inbound play. I can't remember if they had a release man back there, but I think you should be able to get it in and keep your timeout. Even if you can get it to half and call a timeout, you can get in position for a much more dangerous inbound play. Coaches have special inbound plays from this spot for moments like this.
Regardless, I think that everything worked out well for Butler. They got a good shot off that had a great chance of going in.
Can't argue with Duke having great coverage though. It really helps when you have NBA size on your team.
This tournament really showed me how important having a great coach is. Izzo had his best player injured and still managed to reach the final four. Holding off the comeback from Maryland was tough enough but to keep advancing without Kalin shows just how tough an Izzo team is.
Great tournament and it was really thrilling to see Lucious' shot and Kramer's layup live. My bracket ended up being sub-par. I even lost to my old man which hurts quite a bit. Normally I'd be really upset with Duke winning, but with such a great tournament and final game, it is really tough to complain.
Last but not least.... NCAA, please keep the tournament to 65 teams.
That is all.

Kentucky has signed Brandon Knight (the best PG available from high school). They also have a commitment from Michael Gilchrist (the best junior available in high school).
They had already signed Kanter and Poole.

A couple more one and dones, barring injury those 2 guys will never step on the floor together. Calipari has done a great job of winning in late April, too bad the tournament is over by then.

Awesome news.
After all of the talk, the tournament isn't expanding to 96. It is expanding, but only to 68 (3 more play-in games).
It allows 3 more bubble teams to make it. Good if there are enough teams to make the tournament that deserve to be there. Some years you will get 5 teams that don't belong instead of just 2...

The NCAA plans to expand the men's basketball tournament from 65 to 68 teams beginning next year and announced a new, $10.8 billion broadcasting deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting on Thursday that will allow every game to be shown live for the first time.

Overall, I am quite glad to hear this.
