No, what I posted says quite the opposite. The event was well organized (but flawed in what they wanted in my opinion), and attendance was increasing year after year.

Yeah, the "festival" sucked. But the glowing orbs they sent down the river were pretty cool.

Why aren't they having it again then? That doesn't make any sense to me. If someone's bad idea is becoming a success, they're pretty likely to take that as validation and continue on, aren't they?

That wasn't for the Bow Flow, it was a different event. I was out of town when it happened, but the pictures of it looked really cool. Definitely something the city should be looking to do as an annual event in the summer.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I would take it as yet more proof that the group has no idea what they are doing. Like I said, no lack of organization, just a complete lack of sense.

Although I never went to one of these (it DID seem a bit too granola for me), I had no problem whatsoever with the road closure. But the spin in the media really positioned it as a "hippies vs. cars" type of argument. Closing 1/2 of a road on a weekend shouldn't really ruffle as many feathers as it did (even in Calgary), but if you're going to shut a road down, I'd like to see a little more than people meandering around aimlessly on a road mere metres away from a pathway designed for said meandering. Food trucks/booths and arts vendors would have made it more appealing and would have justified the road closure.

I wish they would have sent Druh Farrell down the river with them.

Nobody complains (well, almost nobody) about shutting down roads when there's a reason for it. The problem with BRF was that they wanted to shut down a road for the sake of shutting down a road, and never really gave people a reason to support them.

Which is kind of my lasting impression of the last major protest (you know... the wall street thing) here in Calgary.
Sometimes these protest groups just want to flex their muscles and see what kind of headlines they can get. Nothing usually gets accomplished in the eyes of the general public, although I suspect the protest group probably sees it differently.

My guess is that the city stopped subsidizing it. It's easy to promote your granola loving hippie ways when someone else is footing the bill. Lot harder when you gotta raise the cash yourself.
