44 was done twice, as there was a guy walking in the bar with a #44 jersey right after the 44 beers on tap sign was shown. I haven't seen anyone else who's noticed it though.
I was reading some blogs to find out what the numbers were about and many TV show critics needed to watch it twice to notice there was a countdown. I don't understand how your job can be to watch TV and you didn't see that, but needed twitter to help you out.

I noticed #44 was done twice
So what was the countdown for? His dad's death?

Caught the number thing right away, as 50, 49 and 48 were bold red.
The countdown was such a distraction to the rest of the story. Had I not been paying attention to that, I probably would have noticed all the attention...

So did I. I noticed 6 on the folder when Barney was dressed as the doctor, and 5-4-3-2-1 from there, but nothing before 6.

I noticed the 9 and 6 when Barney was playing the doctor, thought it was pretty weird to have a folder with a big ass blue number on it.
Had no clue there was a countdown until right now...

^^^^ Yup, same for me. Only the 9 and 6 and was just tooting my own horn that the doctor was Barney. Both the wife and I were pretty stunned at the ending as HIMYM very rarely goes the sappy route and never really to that extent.

Sappy ending in a sitcom that doesn't have them is usually the last sign of the apocalypse for them.
When Happy Days got really sentimental it was pretty much over.
The shark has been jumped, its time to roll out the mother and end the show so they can spin off the comedy where Barney moves to San Francisco because he finds that his need to sleep with a ton of woman is actually an overcompensation for . . .

I noticed #47 first and remembered (from about ten seconds before) there was the number on the desk. I started the episode from the beginning and started looking for the numbers. I'll probably watch it again tonight to see what I missed by being preoccupied. I guess it's easy to see I'm an accountant.

I was wondering what was up with all the numbers throughout the show....I missed it as a countdown though.

I think its nothing more than a plot line twist in the middle of a season. The show is still one of the most popular out there, it'll be on for awhile

Usually their show-long gags are for comedy effect. I think this result just hit a little too close to home. Still a good show to watch.

I noticed the number thing a few times, but never gave it a second thought.
When Marshall's father didn't answer the phone I knew something was wrong, but it still got to me when Lilly told him what happened.
I nearly broken down when Marshall said "I'm not ready for this". As Prototype mentioned the writing and addition of that line was superb, really made it sink in how real the characters have become.

I just hope that the next episode is handled carefully and well done. It's written by the shows two creators, and if they want to be taken seriously as a show that can still balance comedy with a dramatic storyline, this episode will be a test.
