With all the reports of long lines and the Jays in a game 7, I bet a lot of late voting baseball fans just didn’t go vote. Then you factor in people straight up leaving the lines and people who just didn’t go vote due to lines, it’s not surprising.

But also, early voting was down too. So people were just apathetic to the candidates for mayor overall.

Well, Brian Theissen cost Gondek big time. Though I suppose Sharp could say the same vis-a-vis Danielson.

Which is why the UCPers set up parties. It doesn't work in reverse though. progressives didn't flock to the Calgary Party.

Well, on the other hand, you have to assume that if Farkas doesn't run, Sharp wins.

Maybe - I think he drew from both sides because of his supposed attitude adjustment.

She did not suck. She did a decent job as councilor. But she won very narrowly last time, she didn't pander to NIMBY's and she managed to do at least one thing that would piss off everybody. I know Kourtney, we're not friends or anything but our kids go to the same school, have the same extra-curriculars, and we go to the same community events regularly... I say that so that when I say that I only voted for her reluctantly folk can understand why in a low engagement election election she didn't have more of a showing.

Nah, Penner sucked. I lived down the street from her in Garrison Green; she was a crappy neighbour and a crappy councillor. Good job Ward 11 on giving her the boot.

I really hope Thiessen goes back to the drawing board and comes back properly ready to campaign hard next time, either as councillor or mayor, because I feel like he has a lot of promise.

He surely did; I just think if you remove him his voters split 2-1 for Sharp over Gondek. They're still change voters ultimately.

I don't think he has any interest in toiling away as a councillor. The guy really, really doesn't have to do politics. I don't know him super well but my guess is it's the mayor's office or nothing.

Joey Nowak in Ward 1 is another, if she hangs on. Kim Tyers would be the other possibility, so Ward 1 is definitely going to be a woman.

The mayor’s office it is — provided, of course, that Farkas doesn’t have a good first term. I’m optimistic, albeit cautiously.

Oh, I thought I looked up all the likely winners, but I guess I skipped Ward 1 and just assumed Joey was a man's name. Thanks for the correction.

I would keep an eye on Joey Nowak in the coming years. She is extremely well educated and will be a good progressive voice in the council. Huge change in ward 1 from Sharp.

Yeah but Rob Ward? Might as well have elected Smith to council.

"Bus Boobs" is a nickname that some use for Danielle Smith because, back in the Wold Rose days, her giant headshot on her campaign bus was placed above the two rear wheels. It looked like she had wheels for boobs, basically. Edit: Or just post a damn picture like Fuzz.

The second part is probably more obvious, given the links between the UCP and the Communities First party. Sharp is seen a bit of a preferred candidate for the UCP in their quest to "conservatize" city councils in the province by introducing party politics.

I understood who he was talking about, I just didn't get the reference to the bus thing.
