I say this about the entire playoffs not just whoever the Oilers are playing but the number one factor in me losing interest in the NHL playoffs is the fact that the officiating is so wildly inconsistent and they allow such insanely dirty play to go unpunished.
It’s already a war of attrition without all the dirty bull#### play that they let go. And then they call the cheapest hooking and tripping and over the glass penalties. I paid to watch hockey to watch the most skilled players in the world make good play. Not to watch the goons that hurt them.
I have no interest in watching a competition where the winner is who injure the most players on the other team and survive with the least number of concussed and injured players on their team.
I also despise the entire mindset of putting the whistles away so that the losing team doesn’t lose worse. A tripping penalty to prevent an empty net goal against is every bit as valid as a tripping penalty in the first period but for some reason only the trip in the first period gets called.
The game is already significantly more intense in the playoffs it doesn’t get more intense by cosplaying as the clutch and grab era.
