Putting Suniev in to score and save the Flames is unwise. He hasnt fought in battles yet , and meritocracy should matter to any coach
My example SVEN F ing Baertche. Anyone remember that ? If youve been a fan long enough and remember and believed thr hype WOW that was a spectacular display of dumb.
So yeah. Suniev will get his day . Sunny doesnt need to be thrown immediately into fire .
It would be like the Canadian army being sent to battle with thier plastic knives and forks.
The culture of this team, its management, coaching is changing for the better and the jump to NHL and thr example of even Matt Coronato needing time is perfect.
- skating at this level hell be exposed, rocked even, because thr playoffs have basically already started.
- maybe adrenaline gets him by for 2 or 3 games but mistakes end up in our net right now and that's not good.
Let him watch. If he sits with Iginla Conny and Gelinas hell learn some things he woulsnt normally get to hesr and learn .
Get Danielle Fujita on the ice with him immediately because if he ends up like Coronato we win big time . ....those 2 are id say a huge part of thr future of goals assists and wins ....but just not righf now.
If only we could just insert our prospects immediately...sign me up.
Fellas ....thia team is slowly taking shape right in front of our eyes and one day well see payoff finally.
Go Flames Go....
Playing Suniev for 3-5 games isn't going to damage him or any other prospect in any way. Especially ones that are physically ready like Suniev, Parekh etc.
The Flames have realized under Conroy that giving your young players a sniff actually HELPS with development as the player can see where they are lacking and get a taste of what they need to do. I'd rather have these young guys go into camp next fall with a bit more knowledge of the pace, physicality and day to day requirements than simply running them through practice out some dated ideal that they will falter if they aren't babied.
Guys that are banged up like Backlund, Pospisil, Kadri and Weegar shouldn't be ridden down the meaningless stretch just because a young player hasn't paid his dues. Whatever that means.

I understand the frustration at Suniev not playing while Perreault and Snuggerud are but those guys are both first-round picks and much better prospects. I'm pretty confident that if Parekh were already eliminated, he'd be in over Bean or Pachal.

I would be putting Suniev in for Farabee when the time comes. Putting Suniev with Backlund and Coleman makes a lot of sense and Farabee has really struggled.
Terrible take. Leave Farabee alone.

I think Farabee has been okay on his current line (struggled more prior to that), but the finish is lacking for sure. Subbing Suniev in for him for a game at some point isn't going to hurt either player. Sometimes it's just your turn to be in rotation. Many other players have had to stomach it over the course of the season, and some have done just fine in spite of it (see Hanley, Miromanov, Pachal).
Don't let CP peer pressure you into walking back your stance. There's nothing wrong with a variance of opinion on a player or matter, and regulars here can be a little more respectful of someone seeing things differently (even if it's in contradiction with their precious advanced stats). I feel like posters do line up to take shots at you when they disagree with a take because of the nature of your work and it's a little unnecessary.
If every one in the media held vanilla views all the time that didn't spark a little controversy things would be boring. So I welcome it..... until I vehemently disagree
Less about Farabee, but Suniev on Backlund and Coleman's wing is exactly where you stick a young guy like that, and it's what the Flames have been doing with their rookie forwards ever since Backlund and Frolik were a pair (and Hudler left).
Give him cover to shelter his mistakes and make him keep up to NHL veteran work ethic.

That's the thing. I don't advocate pulling Farabee right out of the lineup, but the spot he's occupying right now would be the perfect place to give Suniev a tryout.

Farabee is catching too many strays when Sharangovich has been absolute dog ####. Why are people ignoring how bad he’s been literally all season?

Farabee is catching too many strays when Sharangovich has been absolute dog ####. Why are people ignoring how bad he’s been literally all season?
Several reasons:
1. Sharangovich's injury really set him back
2. The team has made a commitment to him for another 5 years, so it's in the team's best interest to get the best Legor it can.
3. Sharky is a streaky player, and his confidence and mindset plays a huge role. In the offseason, he himself commented about having a different mindset when he was relied on to score vs playing in the bottom 6.
Flames fans have seen Yegor struggling this year, but they've also seen him as a 30 goalscorer, a shootout specialist, a source of short-handed offence, as well as a constant threat on breakaways and the PP. We have yet to see that level of play out of Farabee. All we've seen so far out of Farabee is an average 3rd line winger that's good in transition, goes to the net, and is a bit snake bitten.

I think you're failing to understand the premise of a message board.
Guy that likes to have bold opinions had one about Farabee coming out. Others disagree and stated why.
I didn't see any advanced stats in the replies, but a few that pointed out the details in his game being solid.

Scorp will be fine.
You ... not so sure.
We're both literally supporting the same cause. Healthy debate.
The "premise" isn't lost lol. And we'll both be just fine.
I wanted to drop a brother a little support since the response was starting to get a little chippy and pile-on-y, even if i don't totally agree with him.
I loved Calgary’s pick of Suniev in the third round in 2023 after watching him score at nearly a goal-per-game pace with Penticton of the BCHL. Suniev had 20 goals and 38 points as a sophomore this past season, which wasn’t surprising given just how effective of a producer he has been at every single level. He has a high-end shot, great work ethic and seems to make something out of nothing more than most. Plus, he’s got a nice 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame. His skating is the only thing that’s holding him back from being a slam-dunk prospect for the Flames right now, but there’s still a ton of potential.
