You don’t have to trade anyone even if they are a pending UFA.

How do we get better long term. I’m seriously doubting the Flames want to trade Andersson and will add another boat anchor to our team.

Yeah, you gotta believe Vladar would have been gone if a second was offered. Everyone “in the know “ was saying so. Same that if a first and anything of value were offered for Andersson, he’d be gone too. Fact is, he hadn’t been playing well for a month or two and was scratched at the 4 nations.

I dunno about Vladar for a 2nd. I believe Conroy wanted to reward the team for their heart this year and didn’t want to disrupt the room with a trade.

I’ll disagree though that it was a slim chance for a top 10 pick. The worst goal scoring team in the league riding a rookie goalie is a recipe for disaster that somehow worked out into mediocrity.

“Flames need to trade everyone and rebuild”

Flames trade Toffoli, Zadorov, Lindholm, Tanev, Hanifin, Markstrom, Mangiapane and Kuzmenko for picks and young players with potential and the team competes it’s butt off

I think the boys know it's over now.

My guess is we will see a drop off in play over the last few games and a lot of losses.

Hm.

I find myself in the unusual and uncomfortable position of skeptical optimism.

As an EPL fan, sometimes the run-in is the most interesting part of the season.

Realistically this team should never have even been in the playoff discussion, but they played over their heads and made some noise. And its been fun!

They aren't mathematically eliminated so, while she's backstage warming up, the fat lady has indeed, not yet sung. Now its about character and what kind the Flames have.

They have a choice here.

They can lay down and die. Thats the easy way but is that how you would want to go down? Or, they can fight like hell. And they may fight like hell and still miss the playoffs, I'd contend thats even the most likely outcome. But it will speak volumes as to the character of this group.

So...while the fat lady is doing her vocal exercises behind the curtain and likely terrorizing the craft services employees...lets fight like hell and GTFO of here to the playoffs before she starts her set.

This is exactly right. We have already done the tear down and we were set up to be bottom 5 this year. We have tons of cap space and a the best prospect pool I can remember the flames ever having. Our players are over achieving and playing great most games, yet people are still pissed off. We should be thrilled to have meaningful games in march/April and to be playing as well as we are without the elite talent that’s coming soon.

Calgary's prospect pool ranks around the middle of the pack team wise right now, based on major publications. Big improvement but they have only one elite prospect.

The road to Calagry becoming a contender is likely long, as they will get worse before they get better.

A 30 goal 100 pt season in your draft year as a dman is as elite as it gets.

Dress him in orange and use him as a pylon in practice? Kidding aside, Dion used to be a pretty great D-men for the Flames, and it's a shame that we traded him for peanuts.

I always thought that he was a stud, but his hockey IQ was a bit lacking defensively. That's why I'm not sure if he would make a very good coach, but I like having him, and other Flames-alumni, around the team.

Naw...Matt Stajan alone was worth it. That guy was great!

The post made it seem like more was on the way.

After Zayne we have no elite talent on the way. We will be relying on 35 year old to be our #1C again unless he asks for a trade. 32 year old left winger.

We need more 2 pieces doesn’t get you out of this position. And signing 28 year old free agents who are wingers don’t fix things either.

Even though I don’t totally agree with 2 points

1. I think there’s likely more tearing down ahead. Coleman, Andersson and maybe Kadri and Weegar yet. Backlund isn’t the the greatest choice for captain either

2. I don’t know how much elite talent is in the pipeline

I certainly prefer this position to teaching to lose.

The team was built to suck but they played their hearts out and got terrific goaltending. We have cap, some really good prospects for once and still quite a few picks to make. I’ll take that every day of the week

The Flames had 8 prospects with an NHLe of over 30 this year.

I'm of the belief that 90% of the future roster of this team is already in the system. There are really good prospects at all positions.

The real challenge is how Conroy can maneuver to acquire through trades or the draft, the top end forward talent that the group sorely lacks.

It's unlikely but not over.

The Blues are never going to lose again, so that's probably over.

But Wild just lost to the Devils at home, and now go play Devils, Rangers and Islanders on the road with all those teams in the middle of a playoff battle and then come back to play the Stars at home.

I don't think 3-5-0 is impossible for the Wild and that would put them at 93 points

Flames go 7-3-0 and it's 94 points.

Just beat the Avs and you go from there
