I didn't hear anything that tells me they are looking for someone over 23, just that it fit the age range they're going for. My assumption was they mean the previously stated 23 and under age group.

Since Colorado is off to a bad start, is in win now mode, and could use help on the back end, maybe they make sense as a trade partner.
Calum Ritchie is a very young right handed Center.
Mavrik Bourque Is a similar aged right handed Center on Dallas.
Shane Pinto is a 23 year old right handed Center playing on Ottawa’s third line.
We’ve talked about Cozens.
Martin Necas is a 25 year old Right handed Center who has been on the trading block.
Tomasino is another 23 year old right handed Center that is current playing as Nashvilles 4th line RW.

I think it’s unlikely but Ras might be the best trade chip of them all to get that C.
That said, I’m not convinced the Flames would want to trade Anderson right anyway.

So responding to/discussing rumours isn’t what this thread is about. Gotcha.

Flames need centers of any kind right now, one single injury to Kadri of Backs and the depth evaporates to zero.
If they don't go get a center of some sort, they're left with a concussed Rooney, Some players they're trying out at C (Pops and Zary), some AHL farm hand 4th liners and Rory Kerins.
I understand to some extent why some posters don't want to make trades but acquiring a good young center is actually pretty important for right now and for the next 4 years. I'm talking specifically RFA level centers when spending any sort of assets.
Outside of that, they'll still need another 2 depth center acquisitions..

Who isn’t looking for a center under 24 who shoots right?
Also, all teams looking for a top 4 D man under contract for a below average cap hit. Must be over 6” and shoot right,

I would be looking at the Seattle Kraken. Up against the cap, not carrying a full roster I believe, would like to move money out to gain some flexibility, has former Blake Coleman linemate Yanni Gourde on the fourth line in the last year of a deal paying ~5.16/season.
Age doesn't fit, but contract does AND because his money isn't all that easy to move, I wonder if you go after Irma Alberta's Jagger Firkus as the sweetener - currently in the A, was CHL player of the year last year and shoots R and played C in junior but has significant questions about size.
Edit: To clarify, when I say "I would be looking at the Kraken", I don't mean to say that would necessarily be my preferred scenario, only that that sort of player/deal would seem to jive with the current ethos IMO.

No, it’s obviously for overreacting to random rumours and acting as if they have already happened.

“If they do this” is what I wrote, and Frank is one of the more prominent insiders. So, I’m not acting as if it already happened, nor is a Frank rumour a “random” rumour.
Your reaction to my post is the only overreaction here.

Seattle is actually an interesting situation. They will have to figure out something in order to ice a full team, as it's not feasible to run a player short for a season. I'm not sure that they would move Firkus, though.
I'd look at (as you mentioned) Gourde and possibly David Goyette as the add-on. Goyette just turned pro this season, but cleaned up in the OHL in his third season there. Best asset is skating, and a natural centre.
Calgary can move Honzek to IR, but would he have to move to junior when healthy? That would also mean a move of Klapka to the Wranglers when Sharky is good to go.
You could send Walker Deuhr and 2026 3rd (van) back to Seattle without much issue. You add Gourde and Sharangovich to this team, and you might be kissing a tank goodbye.

It was brought up by someone else but I’ll add Helenius to this list from Buffalo. Not that there are any rumours but I think Buffalo has to be desperate to get better right now. He’s younger than the other players on the list but that might play into his acquisition being more possible. Buffalo has tons of young skilled players so they could potentially afford to trade the one that’s likely the furthest away from being NHL-ready in exchange for something that makes them better right now.
The problem with targeting any of the NHL-ready centres is that every team wants/needs them. Teams looking to compete right now need those players and don’t want to make trades that sacrifice a strength in their line up. I would love to target guys like Ritchie and Helenius - younger and more raw than Bourque, Pinto and Tomasino… but with higher upside potential IMO. The flames can afford to wait for Helenius or Ritchie to develop - I’m not so sure about Buffalo or Colorado. Buffalo has to start making the playoffs and Colorado is in their cup window.

If we got Calum Ritchie, I would flip. I would even add to get him, he's going to be a star.

I'm taking that to mean that Conroy is chipping away, but not getting very far...

For example, we're talking about Pospisil like he's a great young prospect....he's turning 25. He could be out of his prime within a couple of years.
|
How can you point to Pospisil as evidence of the Flames mismanaging their prospects? He was brought up into the NHL when he was ready - he was allowed to develop and now we're reaping the rewards. Go look at the prospect rankings the past few years - we didn't think much of Pospisil either. He improved and developed, and is now part of the core on the NHL roster.
