Although the Flames may have needed Ruzicka’s cap space to reactivate Kylington, I would have rather Ruzicka at least go into the press box for a few games (ie: more than one) before he hit the waiver wire.
Oh well
He's already been in the press box for a while.
He has also played 28, 44 and 39 games with the Flames, over the last 3 years. This isn't a spur of the moment, first time out of the lineup, kind of a thing.

Forever? We have an impending sell off coming. There is and will be plenty of opportunity down the stretch (at least there should be).
I'd agree that it's not incredibly likely that Ruzicka turns into a consistent top six forward, but that's still a moderate risk you are taking on a 24 year old who has shown that he can produce points with a larger role. People keep saying that he squandered endless opportunities but a quick look at his game logs would tell you otherwise.
It's odd to me how everyone expects a player who has never played in a fourth line capacity at any level be able to just switch his game up completely and reinvent his skillset at the highest level. He's an offensive player, and needs those looks to be successful. He isn't an elite forechecker or banger. He doesn't compliment those types of talents either. We saw Monahan struggle immensely in the very same situation in his final few months here.
It's not a franchise altering decision (far from it) but it's still poor asset management in my mind - especially given the state of this current roster.
I hope he succeeds too, and I won't be screaming bloody murder if it happens either. It is very possible that Ruzicka went to Conroy and asked for this to happen as well. I wouldn't discount that as a possibility.
I think Ruzicka did well under Sutter. I was hoping he'd continue with the new coach and provide more consistency in his game. Sucks that this team doesn't know where exactly they're heading mid way through this season.
Bit disappointed to see Ruzicka go for nothing with his age, size and experience I still think he could have been a player, and I don't like seeing us hand the Coyotes a free center when they might be one of the teams in play for Lindholm. DeSimone is a 29 year old AHL vet... guys like that are on the waiver wire and available as UFAs ever summer.
Are you suggesting they might be less interested in Lindholm, because they have Ruzicka now?
The way I look at it is: if they feel they need to grab Ruzicka off waiver, to fill a hole at C, then they are NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD as they, or Scorp, think they are. If there is room in their top 3 lines for Ruzicka to paly C, then Lindholm is EXACTLY what they need!

He did well for a while. While he, and his line, was on a PDO run.
Then his habits kicked back in, and the bounces stopped going in, and he was benched by Sutter just as he has been benched by Huska.
We all enjoyed the heater he went on, but he has done exactly nothing since then.

He certainly won't be a top 6 center for them, but who knows how he plays there, and perhaps allows them to bump another guy up the lineup and push someone out to the wing. Just don't love the principle of giving away a 24 year old player for nothing. I think it's the second time the Flames have lost a player on waivers (Valimaki I believe had to be waived to be cap compliant as well) due to Kylington's contract and playing status.. not to suggest it's Oliver's fault in any way shape or form but not great.

It has nothing to do with Kylington, and everything to do with neither one of them doing anything to earn a place on the roster
I think AZ claimed him because Schmaltz is banged up, Hayton is not quite ready to return, and Boyd is done for the year. Pretty easy calculation
Sure, but with all their picks and acquisitions over the last while, you'd think they'd have more people in the organization they would want to have a look at. Picking up waiver fodder for the top 9 isn't a great look.

I think we’ve seen from guys like Zara and Pospisil, sometimes the best move is to open up opportunities for other guys in the system.
as much as i was hoping Ruzicka would turn into a player, he wasn’t showing any growth.
Of course, having said that, with the Pospisil injury, I probably would’ve tried slotting him into the Kadri line for a couple of games before waiving him.

He's an interesting enough player that I can see why they claimed him. He has shown flashes of skill in the past, is young, very manageable contract, and has been playing down the line-up. There is literally no downside to a team taking him and giving him a shot. If it doesn't work, it cost nothing. If it does work out, you get an asset.
Not that I am worried about it.

Wasn’t he only in the press box for one game, when Schwindt was recalled?
Great day for the Flames! Two more roster spots. We should celebrate. This is flexibility at exactly the right time.
I don't see more roster spots. Kylington and Duehr in, Desimone and Ruzicka out. We're still at 22, and Pospisil is on IR.
That said, the Flames are down to 43SPCs. Only Carolina has less with 41SPCs. I guess we can take up to 7 more players than we send out at the TDL, but again I don't see a huge difference between 43, and 45.
