Hopefully he injects some toxicity and mistrust into a lineup on a record setting win streak and they burn out in the first round if they make the playoffs.

* what record is that?
the fake one the SN made up? NHL record is 17 games...and that was with no SO or 3 on 3 (Oilers streak has been broken 3 times by old rules)

Actually I was referring to some of the disgusting comments posted on this site. If I had been referring to your post I would have quoted it. I enjoy coming here to read informative, thoughtful posts regardless of what the opinion is. I don't come here to read some of the childish crap some post. Makes me think we have a number of school age children here, yet to grow up. I think the monitors need to do a much better job.

Hypothetically you have a still great player, early thirties on a terrible team signed to an 11 million dollar contract, lets call him Conny MacSweatpants, the team needs the cap space to keep the decent 24 year olds they've got (like I said purely hypothetical) and they need to really tank to get a number 1 pick so they need his goals out of the line up and he wants to end his, up until now, mind numbingly pointless career with a cup win (well maybe not so hypothetical)
Conny doesnt want more money, he wants a ring but teams that are in the running for a ring can't afford his salary, so his agent will have a quiet word and hey presto some ice girl says Conny pinched her arse and a cup contender loads up on talent for league min'.
This loop hole will be exploited by every aging star with 3 or 4 years left on their contract

This is exactly what happens when a lot of accredited, traditional media people lose their jobs in their respective fields. We already know without a doubt that TSN and Rogers will not present anything of substance because they are rights holders either through radio or TV, or at least were in TSN's case.
What we have in sports now that teams are controlling more and more of their content is a lot of BS being fed to their fan bases, and this goes for ALL teams in all aspects of hockey. Every team with the best coaches, managers, prospects, leadership and more.
That being said, and I hate to say this, Perry might work out well for Edmonton. If his issues were alcohol related or he had alcohol problems and he has been able to get that looked after, he may be primed to contribute a lot as a healthy player.
Edmonton has shown they can bring in problem players or players with a past and turn them into team friendly contracts and productive players. Perry, Kane and Kassian just to name a few.

But why would he even sign the more expensive contract in the first place? He could’ve signed anywhere in the off season for league minimum. I think the plan for Perry was what has been stated, sign a large contract, mentor bedard and get traded at the trade deadline. Best of both worlds, the money and the cup.

Interesting
The league loading McSweatpants up for his last year in Urineville before Pissy is traded.

Do you seriously think any one with a legitimate alcohol problem can get healthy in 8 weeks?
Whatever problems he has are more than likely following him there and more than likely aren't yet addressed.
The guy is 38 and has hardly played this season. The extent of what he'll bring is in veteran wisdom more than anything else.

I'm not talking Perry specifically, I'm talking players in the future who find themselves on teams falling apart, now a team could conceivably front load a contract they have no intention of honoring, all it requires is the player and the team to agree, I'm thinking of the 'Nucks and Luongo where he wanted out and they wanted to rebuild but his contract made him untradeable.
Plenty of older players would give up a larger contract to transfer over to a cup contender knowing they are on a one year ELC, they can win a cup and then go back to a huge payday

I could see him being played with McDavid for a while just because and if so he will get the same temporary bump that James Neal did (remember his little heater and the Oil fans claiming victory in the trade). But he will drag the line down and be demoted and score no points in a bottom 6 role.

The whole thing stinks. Player does something so egregious that even a team whose entire upper management conspired to cover up sexual abuse in the organization decides that it voids the terms of a guaranteed contract, and the NHL agrees, allowing the team to cancel the contract rather than having to buy it out and suffer the financial and cap consequences. Player receives no disciplinary action from the NHL for the actions that so egregiously violated the terms of the contract. Neither the player, the team, nor the NHL release any details of the circumstances which result in the contract to be voided, either publicly or to teams interested in signing the player. Only the Oilers offer the player a contract, claiming to have done so in spite of not knowing what the player did to void his previous contract. Player agrees to league minimum contract with the Oilers because it’s the only offer he gets.
Does the NHL not think that the exceptions made for the Black Hawks, Perry, and the Oilers in this situation, combined with the surrounding secrecy, look rather suspicious? Or does the NHL simply not care, because if these back-door dealings result in a McDavid presence in the SCF, it was worth it?

Ding ding ding.
It's in the NHL's - and Rogers - interest to have McD in the finals for the money. They'll do what they can to assist in making that happen where feasible.

That is why the contract is only league minimum. No competitors offering a contract.

If you don't consider references to a player's mother embarrassing and disgusting then I wonder about your ethics. Maybe some others should grow some balls and speak out about it too. I should not have to repeat the quote or report a post for the moderators to call out the poster.
