While I don't have an opinion on this either way, what Frank says here is clearly presented as an opinion and therefore not a fact. We aren't privy to what happened in that car ride. It could've been Johnny with the change of heart regardless of what his wife wanted.
Why would that make any sense? So what you are proposing is that Johnny wanted to leave the Flames and his wife wanted him to sign there. Why would he want to leave Calgary? To be closer to his family and parents? Nope, they absolutely love Calgary and probably would have moved up here. Do you think Guy Gaudreau told his son whom he trained as a kid to throw away being an all time franchise leader and a legend in a hockey market, a chance to set records there and possibly become the most beloved player in franchise history to move to a non hockey market 8 hours down the highway? No? Me neither. He had stated over and over he wanted to stay in Calgary and then he negotiated an extension until the last hour. If his heart was set on going back East why did he negotiate at all? Wouldn't he have told his agent right from the start hr wanted to go to free agency? Why would his agent feel the need to apologize and why would Brad seem shocked? What you are theorizing is that Gaudreau wanted to leave a hockey legacy for no good reason at the expense of disappointing his new wife and his family. If it was a friend's thing he could have signed with Devil's, they made an offer and he would have been much closer. His wife on the other hand has family and friends in Columbus and it has the best children's hospital which is her career in the US. Like you don't even need the confirmation from the insiders if you connect the dots.

It being his wife's choice has already been refuted by someone with actual sources. Long ago. Why are you pushing so hard to resurrect this false narrative?
Dude, whoever the sources are, they're wrong. Go ask Derek Wills, Pat Steinberg or anyone close to the team, they didn't want to completely throw her under the bus, but the truth was obvious.
I don't know why people think she loved Calgary so much. She lived here for like 8 months mostly during the cold and the snow with sunsets before 5:00. Not to mention the pregnancy, all the friends and family she left behind and her job and the life she had built back in Eastern USA. Honestly, what could she have possibly loved in her situation especially with her husband being on the road for half the season? I just don't see any motive.
That car ride story very much fits with the motivations. Johnny was probably the only reason why Calgary was still in the picture. She probably thought about it, thought about another of those 8 months x 8 years and said nope. Johnny calls back tearfully and says he can't sign. I mean, it's all right there and honestly, I don't even blame her one bit either as a lot of people would feel the same way.
Wait, what?
As if we aren't enough of a tire fire in our zone.
Seems like a few times I've seen people around here throwing out trades for Nurse. Why would we offer the greasers the double play of dropping an albatross contract and a piece that could again help them outscore their problems. If anyone is suggesting we trade any usable piece (Huberdeau is very usable if paired with a high end finisher, which we don't have right now) for an Oilers mistake is an oilers fan, even if they are wearing a mask over here.

Ya, I am disparaging her or their choice, I can totally understand why she would want to go back East.
Don't really think it's that hard. I have multiple opinions on subjects on a daily basis, and sometimes I'm torn on something regardless of what others around me might think I should do. People are complex individuals and can want two different things, and sometimes in stressful, life-changing situations people have last minute changes of heart.
I'm basically trying to say that nobody knows what happened in that car ride as 'fact' because nobody but Johnny and his wife (and driver? Not sure their driving arrangement) know, so speaking on it as fact is just patently false.

Yep, person "A" who was here for 8 months was the one who wanted to stay as compared to person "B" who was here for 8 years, was a rock star pro athlete, had tons of friends, teammates, was a fixture in the community, knew the city, just had the best year of his professional career, could've broken all the franchise records, best team in the division, best line in the NHL, historic type season, $84M contract on the table, all kinds of trophy considerations and recognition.
I mean, just from a motivation standpoint. Why would person "B" ever want to leave? Person "B" had everything from both a personal, financial and career standpoint, he also saw his family all the time on road trips, all star games, annual visits, offseason. Like, how is it even remotely close between person "A" vs person "B"?

That's nice and all, but still doesn't change my argument whatsoever. Person B has everything to gain by staying where they are, but something as simple as 'well, it felt better to move on' is enough of a reason in their eyes to do so.
Nobody knows for a fact what happened in that car ride and anybody drawing conclusions based on 'opinions' and 'likelihoods' still cannot claim it as fact.
Why are the wannabe insiders so aggressive? You don’t get to play coy about your “sources” (that you’re old enough to remember used to need to be vetted before posting alleged inside info) and then get sassy when people have different information or don’t take your unsubstantiated info as gospel. Lighten up Francis
I didn't play coy with my source on this, try actually reading. Do you see any person who has a connection report who is feeding them info? Nobody would ever get info if that happened.
My grain of salt connection said that Guy really wanted Johnny to sign back in Calgary once they gave him that offer. All about the legacy he could have cemented
Has Guy even made it to a BJ game yet? Has he ever spoken about what happened after Johnny bolted?

Remember when dissentowner knew one person who gave him some information before suddenly having sources who he could check in on for every rumour.
Also calling them sources is so Friggin weird. Canada is a small place population wise, most of us who played at some level have people still in the game, but no one needs to start calling buddies sources or playing the insider game, it's utterly bizarre.

Weird take... its a source of information from someone close to the people involved. I'm sure Dissentowners source is someone pretty connected so why wouldnt they check in when things are going on that might be of interest?

Remember when you actually posted something on topic instead of just doing troll drive by posts? Neither does anybody else. If you think people who know people and post what they hear is utterly bizarre then stop wasting everybody's time with your nonsense troll posts and get lost. Posters like you and Nik serve zero purpose here, you just do your little drive by posts to try and stir #### up. You don't discuss topics, you just come into threads like a bunch of brainless monkeys throwing feces at everyone. Nobody cares, nobody wants to hear your bull####. Go find a real hobby.

One person has turned into a series of people

I hate when people bring spouses into the discussion. Gaudreau made his choice, and the factors that he weighed are his business. Ultimately, he made the choice, not his wife or anyone else.
I was never that confident that he was going to sign. He gave the Flames advanced notice that summer that he wasn't going to negotiate anything until the end of the next season. I'm not saying that means he was planning to leave, but it is pretty indicative of someone who knows there are factors that prevent him from committing.

There is no fact when it comes to this kind of stuff, it's all just speculation. But for a legit insider like Frank to present a scenario this specific though, I mean, there's probably something there. But whatever, everyone is gonna believe what they want to believe.
I'd like to see Johnny Hockey go down on his knees and beg to come back to the Flames. Then, you'd know he's serious. This idea actually isn't too bad since I think Gaudreau would make Huberdeau the 115-point player he was at his peak. I can imagine the Gaudreau/Lindholm/Huberdeau line to be a top line in the NHL. Heck, he may even make Kadri look like Tkachuk!
