I won't be that sad if by Monday Night the same holds true. So long as it's not the case tomorrow.

The clock has not struck 12 yet! Couldn't post after the win as I was out and about but but it was fun having to explain to my father in law why the Kraken players tossed (fake) fish into the stands after a win.

I’m so excited to enjoy a playoff Game 7 for what it is and not have to think about the impact on the Oilers.

I think Dallas takes it but with the Oilers out who cares!

Now that the Oilers are out I'm going for Seattle to win this series. That would make 3/4 teams left that have never won a cup.

Vegas Seattle west final is a bit of a gross situation IMO.

Two expansion teams? Me thinks the expansion draft rules are a bit... favourable...

Absolutely, now I just want to watch good hockey with a bit of cheering for Seattle as the underdog.

Well, TBF, Vegas' top players minus Marchessault and Karlsson are the result of acquisitions - Stone, Eichel, Pietrangelo, Stephenson. And it's not Vegas' fault other teams gifted them Smith, Tuch, Theodore, etc, to buy Vegas choosing Marchessault, Karlsson, Carrier, Stoner and Haula. Looking back, GMs were mighty dumb. I have no idea how Calgary escaped with them choosing a player that wasn't even going to be re-signed.

Super lucky that the Flames had Derek Engelland who resides in the Las Vegas valley. Vegas wanted that "home town boy" and the Flames were happy to leave him unprotected anyway.

Sure he was going to be UFA but when you look at the other players the Flames left unprotected... Engelland was the best choice.

If Dallas wins, it will be the southernmost Conference Finals ever. Vegas would be the city furthest north in the Conference Finals.

Regardless of who wins, it will be the first time that all 4 teams in the Conference Finals had not played their first game in their current city when Gary Bettman became commissioner. The Panthers franchise was awarded 2 days before the league hired Bettman, and the Stars relocation was approved a month after he took over.

Vegas was gifted their team by bad GMs - not by the expansion rules.

A pick to take Fleury, Marchessault and Smith to protect Petrovic, Theodore instead of others from Anaheim, etc

Seattle is a bit different. Didn't make a single trade. Didn't really pick a lot of great players. But really showed the value of cap space and opportunity. And guys like Gourde, McCann, Bjorkstrand, etc have thrived with it. Some weird choices too though with people like McCann and Eberle being left unprotected.

NYI protected Matt Martin who is now 34 and scored 19 points and Clutterbuck, who played half a season and got 12. The Pens traded McCann so they could protect...Blueger (who they traded for peanuts to Vegas), and oddly Toronto paid the Pens for McCann so they could protect Kerfoot, but then they exposed Kerfoot anyway in order to protect 4 D.

^^ That said, the exposed list was, barring cap concerns, quite good.

And this article aged poorly:

We are getting close to it. It was a somewhat similar scenario in the 1996 NFL season when the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars both made it to the semi-finals (NFC and AFC championships) in their second season. Both teams lost.

The days of expansion teams being absolute dog#### for years after they join are gone. Making expansion teams crappy by design killed the Kansas City Scouts/Colorado Rockies, kinda-sorta eventually killed the Golden Seals, Nordiques, Jets and Whalers, and damned near killed the Blues, Penguins, Islanders, Flames, Capitals, Senators and Lightning.

David Bonderman and Jerry Bruckheimer did not spend $650,000,000 to have a #### hockey team. Bill Foley did not spend $500,000,000 to have a #### hockey team.

I’d argue the majority of teams in the league right now could change course and quickly build an expansion-quality team similar to that which Vegas and Seattle got.
