Most surprising series of the playoffs so far. I never expected this. With how the Avs were playing in the second half of the season I thought they would walk away with this series in 5. The Kraken are going to be finding a lot of new fans in Seattle if they can pull this off. Hopefully they're this year's Cinderella if they find a way to close this out and make it past the Avs.

The Avs could be so much better if they were healthy. Kudo to the Kraken though, playing really well.

And maybe best the Oilers if SEA wins and LAK loses that's the next matchup no?

No, Edmonton plays the winner of Vegas/Winnipeg.

Kraken will get Stars or Wild.

Suddenly the West looks extremely winnable for any of the teams left.

Makarov? lol. Yes Makar will make a huge difference next game, and the Avs could still very well win this series, but man, if they were totally healthy they are definitely the favorite to come out of the West.

That's why it's so funny when people make predictions in October and say things like 'nobody can beat the Avs in the West'. We have no idea what can happen in April/May.

sorry makar lol true to what your saying they had flames picked in beginning of the year to be cup favorites. As long is not edmonton I don't mind any other team coming out the West.

I think the Avs were expecting Ladeskog to be ready for the playoffs and this sort of stung them. Right now they don't have a lot up front after the two big stars than subtract Makar and that's another blow.

Burkoski, Kadri, Landeskog, Nichuskin all subtracted and Lars Eller and Evan Rodrigues in. That's missing a lot of horsepower up front. They're still good on the backend and Makar will be looking to atone for letting his team down. So they could still win this. But Seattle has no pressure and the Avalanche have not been great with their back to the wall.

There is a pattern with the Avalanche after winning the Stanley Cup. The two previous times they won the cup (1996 and 2001), they went into next year's first round playoff series as heavy favourites only to lose in seven games on home ice.

In Denver for work and decided to go to the game last minute. Rantanan must be hurt. He looked absolutely terrible. Avs looked lost for most of the game however Makar will help with that.

Imagine if the Kraken were healthy

Burakovsky
Donskoi
McCann (though this is recent)

May have been a similar result

Compounding the issue is that the Avs are losing the goaltending battle in this series.

For what he meant to his team, Burakovsky was dynamite for the Kraken. When he went down so did their record.

I get that its not a great apples to apples comparison but the Kraken have been right with the Avs every night by and large. Add in a guy who played in their top 6 during their best stretch of the year and I don't see how it doesn't make them better too.

Seattle is demonstrating that hockey is in fact, a team game.
