You're not going to repair the team's fragility overnight.

You can potentially improve the goaltending overnight, by taking away Sutter's markstrom button.

Find a way to cut this guy loose. Maybe he can jumpstart his career again elsewhere. it's not working here, and my patience has worn thin

That is why Vladar is 11-5-4 and Markstrom is 14-13-6. This team plays mostly 1 goal games...so how important are those stats. Markstrom has inflated his numbers when the game is out of reach already.

Honestly that 3-2 goal had to be deflating. Flames gave up absolutely nothing all third period.

Senators had 7 shots, and 1 HD chance up until that point of the period.

Then on a unlucky bouncing play the puck lands on a stick in the slot and he gives up just a horrible rebound for a tap in.

Then another bit of a lucky break on a puck retrieval and they make a nice passing play that Markstrom wasn't even close to reading or reacting to, and it's 3-3.

Then you dominate the over time. Have a couple good chances, hit the post.

First real shot against, and not even a solid chance, and boom it's game over.
That meets the eye test. Vladar is mediocre when the game is not on the line but is much better when the game is on the line.

The only real positive tonight is that Dube keeps rolling. Nice to start getting a little more out of him.

Markstrom’s making it really easy to explain why this season will be a write off in a month.

Maybe not but Sutter is still the coach and he refuses to sit Markstrom so I’m going by what I think will actually happen / what actually happened.

Emotional? Maybe a little. Hyperbolic? Not at all. I was critical of the signing. Rode the wave last year when everything was going right for the team. And now we're seeing the true colours come out. Dude has consistently been average for his career. And all the stats show it. Not a good goalie but average. Signed an inflated contract because that's how it goes as a free agent. And now it's costing the team dearly.

The most frustrating thing about the Flames is they lose points left right and center to weaker teams and then you check the standings and see that the top team in the west has what 9 points on them..

Oh well

What a horrible collapse. Game was in hand and they choke a 2 goal lead with less than 3 minutes left.

If Markstrom was average the team would be leading the division right now.

He’s bad this year. He’s better than this and him being this bad makes no sense. Players don’t forget how to play hockey overnight. It’s either lingering injury or bad coaching. Probably both.

Honestly that 3-2 goal was just a killer.

Gave up nothing to that point. Couple weird bounces, guy picks up the puck at the top of the circles, terrible rebound, tap in. Boom Ottawa has life.

So what your saying is that what he gives in awful defensive play, he makes up for in great offensive play, right? Right?!?

3-8 in games decided in overtime. 1-3 in games decided in the shootout. On the one hand, you can make the argument there's a lot of bad luck in there.

On the other hand, that's 15 games the Flames couldn't win in regulation.

Just for context, looking back at when there used to be ties, from 1990-91 through 1995-96 (skipping the lockout year) there are only 7 teams who finished either an 80 or 84 game season with 15 or more ties.

That 29th place shooting percentage is brutal. If we were even average at shooting, we'd be a full percentage-point higher, which would translate into 18 more goals, and have us in the top-5 for goals scored.
