I didn't love the 3rd goal against tonight for Markstrom. Seems like he lost his net.
Reminded me of the Islanders goal last night. Right along the ice but not particularly hard to stop.
We need him to be more consistent. Do that and they can work their way out of this. The save percentage numbers don't lie. It's not good so far.

Beat Oettinger? The Flames were the far superior team and needed game 7 OT to get by them due to Oettinger nearly stealing it. Marky was not the better of the 2 goalies in that series.
Then we all know what happened after that.

Markstrom got the Canucks in the playoffs and won the play in and round one...he came out because of injury after facing 50 shots a game. He has been poor this season but let's not make things up.

My guess is you’re just remembering it that way since our goalies are letting everyone of those chances in.

Flames appear to be dominating play in the third tonight…and then on the first half chance the Devils got…they scored.

I think he lost his net on the 2 of the goals tonight.

He was really good until he got a concussion against the Canucks. He struggled when he came back but I still think he was rushed back to try and save the season. By the time he was starting to get his form back it was too late being a short season.
It wasn't a good season overall like it wasn't for pretty much every Flame that year but I think had it been a full 82 game season it would have ended up looking better. And I think with Sutter as coach the Flames would have ended up eventually passing Montreal.

Only good thing is the Flames is struggling now in early season. I hope management, coach and players find a way to fix all the problems and needs before January and have a great run in the end of the season.
Our D zone coverage is not working well and looks like most of the goals are scored almost same way in our net. Nobody is covering the trailing guy and everybody looked confused.
And I think we need another top 6 guy who can play with Lindholm. Our top 6 has a little chemistry between them.
For now we can try Phillips as a distributer in top 9.
My lines would be.
Huberdeau - Backlund - Coleman
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Dube - Lindholm - Phillips
Lucic - Ruzicka - Lewis/Ritchie

All I remember taking out was "Not saying Vladar is the answer but the team knows Markstrom needs more rest, acknowledges it, and then doesnt give him rest." because I didn't think it was relevant to what I was saying.
But what you put on the second paragraph isn't the same thing as what I'm saying anyway. Vladar didn't play at all the week they played Pittsburgh and Edmonton so he would need to play two in one week to get back to a game a week.

a lot of goals against are being scored from similar spots and in a similar fashion with someone not covering a trailer in the high slot or outright losing their defensive assignment
are they not sitting down with the video coach to go over these alarmingly & consistently similar defensive breakdowns from game to game ?
more importantly , what are they taking away from said meetings

Nice tilt from Gilbert though. He isn’t Lucic or Gudbrandson tough, but is on the same level as a Ritchie. Rarely loses any fights (albeit doesn’t scrap heavies, though there aren’t many left) and does seem to have a physical edge.

Two games in 9 days isn't the norm in the NHL I think we can give that "week" a pass.
Vladar will play Thursday IMO so 1 of 3 on the trip

Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of getting excited about this team. Going on over 30 years without any kind of sustained success.

They've been on the crappy side of one goal games while playing the right way for a lot of the last three, and 5 of the 6 on this losing slide.
The only true stinker was the Nashville game. Seattle was bad too but they had a two goal lead late in that one, so it wasn't all bad.
It's a tough league to win in. They're losing close games. This will turn around and this crap stretch will be a distant memory before you know it.

That's true, and I didn't really have a problem with it.
But if Sutter wants to get him back to a game a week all he has to do is play him twice in a heavy week which is doable. He could even give him one of the Sharks games and either LA or Anaheim during the California trip in December.
