A post is what 0-2 inches wide?

One is very close to an amazing outcome (my point), the other is never giving yourself a chance.

If Wolf gets ~20-25 games this season as backup that's more than enough. Goalies do not come into the league with a starters workload right away

Markstrom has played 194 games (including playoffs) for the Flames, and his stats over that period are a 2.63 GAA and .906 SV%.

He's not a starting goaltender, so this team needs to stop giving him 60 starts. Ride whoever is the hot hand between any of Markstrom/Vladar/Wolf, or better yet, retain $2M of Markstrom's salary and see if you can find another team to take him.

Not sure what that means.

If a guy on a shoot out misses the net by two feet it's an epic failure.
If a guy on a shoot out his the goalie's crest it's an epic failure.

Isn't it a good shoot out attempt if you hit iron or are robbed by a great save?

Who the hell is doing that?

man this site some days ...

Just said the team was somewhat unlucky in the shootout and could have had a better fate.

I actually coach hockey and still don’t know the correct answer to this quandary:

When you’re shouting on a goalie are you using them as the visual shooting target or the net?

For instance, if you decide you’re going high glove, are you picking the visual target as just over his shoulder, or just under the bar in the net?

You would think it’s the latter, as it’s where the puck needs to end up, but if you’re putting in golf you’re supposed to pick a spot not far infront of the ball to help stay on line, and beating the goalie is what matters to make it a successful shot.

Curious what the takes are here, or what strategy the most successful shooters employ.

Sorry, re-reading what I wrote, sounds more snarky than I intended. I was just backing up Estrada's point that Vladar could hardly solve our scoring woes, especially in the shootout (going back to 2022-23).

For sure I know the movie.

Wasn't sure what the intent directed to me with "suck it" was attempting.

Hard to draw much of a conclusion on two shootout attempts. Certainly better than missing the net, not as good as scoring. Guess we'll see how they do next time, what else is there to say really?

Except for Vernon, Roy, Binnington, Murray who all led their teams to the Stanley Cup finals in their first season (having played 3 or less games prior).

I mean, that's just off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a couple more, and that's with using the exclusive club of goalies with practically zero NHL experience taking their clubs to the Finals. Imagine how many more there are that just came in and got their teams to the playoffs, or even just had really good seasons.

Goalies coming in and taking over the net with very little NHL exp is not unheard of. My concern with Wolf not getting any regular season exposure is solely based on his size, and the fact he has to play a more athletic/reactive style because of it. He needs to see full speed NHL shots resulting from full-speed NHL plays made by top-line NHL stars. (ie. not pre-season NHL)

Jordan Singleton I'm not, but in my mind, the more used to AHL-speed plays and shots, the more his muscle memory is going to be ingrained to that level.

I thought it was just light-hearted riffing and not directed specifically at you, but I'm not trying to get in anyone's heads here.

I’m willing to bet that in the vast majority of situations shooters are just letting the shot go towards the net and hoping for the best. It’s not like the skills comp where they can aim.
