Material escalation causing a billionaire owner to get cold feet isn't partisan.

Ohhh fun!!! Broad strokes of partisanship, bring me glee. I voted against the Olympics plebiscite, and not aligned with the event centre financing.
Where do I fall politically dear sir?

oh ok, so probably looking at 2-3 years to build, i just wasn't taking into consideration if you demo the dome, the teams would have to move, makes more sense to build at different location and the teams play in the dome during construction.

indoor connected to the building or open sides like the existing? it would probably get more people in seats during the coldest nights if people could park in a heated parkade, walk through a couple doors and be inside. Would also save snow removal.

Timeline doesn't really need to be longer for a bigger more complicated project, a lot of the steps take the same amount of time, you just have bigger crews. Depending on the site and the construction plan, I think somewhere between 1 and 2 years is realistic for the construction phase of a big sports venue, and the preconstruction phase should be a good half year on top of that. Like you said though, not happening in 1 offseason if they want it in the Saddledomes footprint, the vic park stampede lots seem a lot more realistic, if they need to keep an NHL rink in operation during construction.

Construction will be about three years from groundbreaking to opening, give or take a couple months.

The UCP wants municipal politicians to register formally as lobbyists so we're in for an even more, um, complex, relationship between the province and cites et al

With the Wranglers moving to Calgary, the Saddledome is now the third busiest arena in the NHL. So... umm... how many more concerts do we really need?

my guess is they'd rather have concerts than the Wranglers. It's probably part of the reason why the Wranglers are there to begin with.

I don't think it's an attendance issue the facility looks worn out and having that many teams play makes the ice worse it seems.
I haven't been to other arenas but 2 toilets in a bathroom is normal for 10k people? God forbid you get the runs.
