I don't thin the late night would have affected the Avs too much - it's game 2 of the season. If that happened in February, sure. Bu they're not tired one game into the season.
I also think any effect it did have was offset by the fact that they had a game under their belts, vs the Flames playing their first.
totally, such a lame excuse...Avs have 2 games in a week, cry me a river...not to mention they played a Hawks team actively trying to lose this season
if that was too much for them wait until they play 3 in 5 or something
Last season the Flames had a 8PM start in Calgary and then a 6PM start the next day in Denver
Such a feelgood way to start the season, and the new-look Flames made a very promising debut. Something about the way the team played just gave me very positive vibes. Obviously there's still work to do, I think the lines will likely need some work, chemistry is not all there yet, and we could use a winger with some more offensive skill on the 3rd line to make use of the potential offensive depth we could have there with Backlund.
Kadri, Weegar and Huberdeau were all as good as advertised, which is saying a lot
It's so unusual for a team to change their top guys all of a sudden like this, and I'm sure it'll take quite a number of games before my brain stops looking for Gaudreau darting around the ice. It feels weird, but a good kind of weird.
It feels like an all new era of Flames hockey suddenly, and I'm all for it.

It is weird.
I was probably more excited to watch a game last night than I had been in a couple years...just because you knew it was going to feel so different and didn't really know what to expect.

Curiosity is such a nice feeling sometimes.
I'm also very much in this picture right now
I've been so burned out by various disappointments and the seemingly infinite mediocrity that at least for this fan, change for change's sake feels worth it.
I'm completely ready to feel all new disappointment!

we had done a few things to put ourselves in a bit of trouble (like taking down a 66 CFR Go Flames Go billboard from an overpass and carrying it around along with our open liquor) but we were well treated overall- my recollection was a general happy vibe
I feel like it must be said now, but I was also 18 years of age and on Electric Ave the night of the Flames cup win in 89. I was in Cheers or Coconut Joes or maybe even Electric Avenue Bar up in the Skyroom. I honestly do not remember that night very well...lol

On the Avs side of things that 2nd line was awful. Newhook-Rodrigues were their worst players on the ice last night. Pretty big downgrade from Kadri-Burakovsky, that's a rebuild quality 2nd line, like something you'd expect from Arizona. Don't think they're nearly as much of a threat or favourite if they keep going with that.

the team has a new dna in a lot of ways . you can't really have the same expectations when the guys expected to lead the team are different people . they probably will have their own shortcomings but we don't yet know what those are and if they're better or worse than that of the old guard . it is exciting because the chance that the new group can surpass the limitations of the old one is a distinct possibility .. with the old core we all knew deep down they needed to find a gear they had never shown to compete for a cup and those of us that watched long enough knew they didn't have it
one of the coolest parts about the change is usually a retool like this takes a few years .. tre did this overnight . essentially swapped out a whole core .. that's almost unheard of

Solid start to the season against the defending Champs. Thought the defensive pairs did a really good job with their gap control and the team checked well which limited the Avs dangerous transition game.
Thought 3 of 4 the lines gave the team a lot of good minutes with Kadri's line probably the most noticable of the bunch. Dude plays with a ton of a jam and some solid puck skills, didn't realize he had such a motor.
Thought the 1st line was a disappointing though, which is odd because they had such a good night on the PP. But overall, just seems like a mishmash of top line players who were thrown out there and left to figure it out. Not a fan of the chemistry to say the least. Probably harsh criticism for one game, so after watching how last year's top line performed, the current group has big shoes to fill.
Going to be very interesting to see how the BoA goes tomorrow with all the new faces.
Yeah the first lines chemistry is definitely a work in progress. It's not really a huge surprise either. If Lindholm is the guy expected to drive the play on that line, those are 2 very different players then the ones he has had success with over the past few years.
The Kadri line clicks so well because they all play similar styles. Just very simple games played at high pace.
I hope there is chemistry to be made with the Lindholm line, because sometimes the fit just isn't there.
I have to admit, it really felt like I was watching a whole new team out there. I mean, they pretty much are a new team, but what I mean is I didn't have that "it's all gonna fall apart" feeling gnawing at me when COL started to close the gap.
Enjoyed the game, felt it was a totally different team, no chirping from MT, but protecting each other physically. Thought the team looked really big and fast. I loved JG, but, he got owned physically and now that first line doesn't. They can stand up to anyone and the second line is fast and tenacious. I think a much better team composition.
I think we got a glimpse of what will be for this iteration of the Flames last night. If that is the foundation, oh boy, it's gonna be a really fun June.

May have been mentioned already but Huberdeau’s sister sang the American anthem and his parents were here for the first game too. Was good to see they’re all here and supportive, all seem happy to be here.
I’m really liking Weegar as well, seems like a good guy. We got two really good players for Tkachuk.
