I really like Weegar, reminds me of Joe Colborne but on D.

Maybe this was his sly way of announcing that a trade was being done "before the season", which is technically true.

Not really sure what you guys are talking about. Players saying they won't negotiate during the season have always been referring to the regular season, aka the season opener.
This is exactly the time both sides were working towards getting a deal done, the whole time. Both letting the clock run down to attempt to use any remaining leverage.

I'm guessing it's a joke since the regular season technically started today with the Preds / Sharks game.
But, since this was announced before that game started, it's still prior to regular season starting!

I had noticed that but not overly surprising these days, I guess.

Weegar: hey Treliving… I know we don’t play a regular season game for a week, but the second the puck drops for San Jose and Nashville, I’m shutting down all talks.

If Weegar, Huberdeau and Kadri play up to their contracts the Flames will be going deep this year. And for the next few years afterwards too.
The pieces are in place. The players need to deliver now.

lassoing a top 6 right handed winger with scoring touch would make it the stuff of legend . I'm thinking if the D looks good with Mackey on it then they could flip kylington (as much as I like him we are very deep with or without him)

Is it that weird? Tons of right handed people shoot left, myself included, why would the reverse not be true?

Can confirm - I am left handed but a right hand shot.

I mean if the plan is to flip Kylly for a 2nd line RW, wouldn't it make more sense to instead flip Hanifin for a 1st line RW such as Nylander? The Flames would then have arguably as good a 1st line as last year, plus a bolstered 2nd line and improved 3rd line. A much better recipie for playoff success than last year, imo.

ambidextrous here .. some activities left some right . shoot right with a hockey stick
I always thought RH people were the majority until I paid closer attention to the nhl and realized RH players were coveted and vastly out numbered

People likely don't notice because of how few people are actually left handed.
I do wonder though if a left handed person who shoots right is more comfortable on the left side than a right handed person trying to do the same.
I'm as dominant right handed as you can be...I really struggle playing on the left side of the ice. But a lot of the left handed shooting guys who were right handed told me the opposite...they'd rather be on the right side as left handed shots.

No.
There's no indication that any 1st-line RW is on the market. The Leafs in particular are set at LD with Rielly, Muzzin, and Giordano. I don't see why they would make Nylander available.
And I do not want to see this team where it was last spring, one injury away from having Zadorov in the top four D.

I think it’s smart of Weegar and Huberdeau to sign now. Never know when your play may drop off or maybe you get injured or maybe something doesn’t work as well this season for whatever reason. That’s a huge risk when you have a willing participant just sitting here wanting to give you huge contracts, even if it is half a mill or so less than you otherwise think you’re entitled to. One blown knee could kiss that contract goodbye.
