Probably why it is taking so long. Might be a three way trade or Montreal is flipping Dvorak/Anderson to another team or something.

Again I wonder about Lucic for the purpose of clearing cap space. Did he not wish to waive to any of the teams that may have interest? He was an NHLer (not a great one) but he had a great contract that would be attractive to a number of teams, particularly rebuilding ones.
I wish there was a way we coulda kept Mony. I feel it in my bones that he'll have a resurgence, and he coulda signed another 3-4 year deal with the Flames and settle in as one of the Flames legends

I don't understand why Montreal ended up being the dance partner when there are teams who are below the cap and its only a 1 year contract.
It seems so unlikely

They still might dump Lucic? Gambling on that resurgence in a year where they are trying to contend would have been a huge gamble. I did think they'd be able to dump Monahan for a third because a team would want to take that gamble.

I here you...I bet Sutter was fully involved in evaluation of Monahan and his ability to come back from injury or not.

The Florida pick is 3 years away, with that much time to regain it if things go south. And emotionally it's easier to trade an "extra" pick that you acquired. You can end up imagining you traded Tkachuk and Monahan for Huberdeau, Weegar and Schwindt

I love Sutter, but he's the last person you want evaluating injuries. I think he's a "rub some dirt on it" guy.

Yup, about the worst coach for Monahan in that sense

This is up there with the departure of Iggy, and Gio. Hell of a player when he was on, and I hope he turns it on again.
Best of luck Monyhands!

Yes and no.
Every draft is hyped because it gets a ton of media attention and players get over analyzed and what not.
However, within that, there is usually a lot of good information that can give you a real sense of the quality of the draft.
And that has a few different dimensions to it. When I think about the quality of the draft I look at
- What is the quality of the top end. This year's draft had a relatively poor quality at the very top
- What are the various ledges, and where are there drop downs. How deep into the draft do you have potential top line players
- What is the depth through the rest. Typically this is harder to tell and more similar year to year. Once you get into the 2nd and beyond, it's much harder to ditinguish
So when I look at 2023 I evaluate it to be a strong draft because
- It has a really good first overall (Bedard). At the Mackinnon level.
- At least 2 additional players that I think have franchise potential
- A good batch of additional players in the first that have top line potential, particularly within forwards
- Good depth of quality prospects into the mid to late part of the first
A lot can change in the next year, but that's the early read. It's a good draft across multiple dimensions.

So all in it’s
Out: Tkachuk, Monahan, 4th round pick
In: Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar, Schwindt
I’m taking that all day long

You might need to throw Lucic up with Kadri the shift after he does something nasty.

Does it usually take this long for specifics in a trade? It's been over 1.5 hours.

As much as I like Dvorak I would prefer if something came back in this deal it was Hoffman. Fills that last need perfectly.

Got yah, then it would make sense to dump the Florida 1st. I always ignore pre-draft hype for the most part.
