The expectation level rose in Vancouver because of that bubble series where they road goaltending through two rounds and announced to the world that the rebuild was over.
Then you make premature decisions.
Same thing with the Flames beating Vancouver in 2015.
The Boudreau bump was solid for points and wins, but once again it was riding a goaltender.
He had them 11th in points percentage the rest of the way, but 17th in expected goal splits (under water), 2nd in save percentage, and 6th in PDO.
If the franchise could go back, miss the bubble, and continue along with what is a strong young core they'd be in better shape now. Instead they had no 1st or 2nd in 2020, no 1st in 2021.
