Probably because they're in Florida or wherever they spend their off-seasons?
That seems like a lot of money and hassle for a simple media availability in July.

I think they'll do that later when they make their own trips out to see the city and look for houses. In due time.
Pretty sure half the media was on vacation as well as Flames organization members perhaps?

The non-trade list is set when the contract is signed, right? And it cannot be modified?

COVID cases are spiking - I’m sure the local scribes didn’t want to go down to the Saddledome and breathe everyone’s air if they don’t have to.
Players also probably prefer it - a zoom call is far less awkward than being a human zoo animal.

What!!!?!?! He’s not going to fight Backlund to the death for #11!?!!??!!
That for sure means he doesn’t care and is only staying one season!!!!!!
Oh man!!!!!! Panic!!!!!!!
....am I doing this right? I’m not sure I have the correct amount of faux freak out.….

I wouldn't start with that... I'd probably want to end up making the same offer we made Johnny less the extra year.

Just reeks of the organization being cheap. Seems like an easy way to start with a good impression by flying them out to the city…other then sending him a zoom link.
Both CBJ and Panthers felt it was important enough to get their new acquisitions on a PJ and trot them out in a jersey. As well as countless other acquisitions these past two weeks.

It was the same thing with Coleman last year, he flew into Calgary on his own time after the signing when it was most convenient for him

That should be the slogan on the sign when you come in to Calgary from the highway.
Welcome to Calgary. Cowboys and stuff like that.

OK. This is the answer to anyone saying Jiri has no sense of humour.

I guess life is not bad in Arizona however. Speaking of Arizona - how about we throw $1M at Phil Kessel for the top line :P

Arizona would be at the top of my list as a place to play. Practice in the morning, golf course in the afternoon. Seems like a pretty awesome arrangement to me!

We’re all a little sensitive right now, but it’s going to be okay. It’s a big decision for these players and they don’t owe us anything (and I’m quite certain both will be locked up).
|
Ya I think they need to experience what its like to be in the city, see the fans, atmosphere at games, etc.

If it is, that's nice for him to tweet out that quote. I would think his agent would be more conservative about his communications if the player wasn't genuinely open to the process.
EDIT: Just saw the "His agent just tweeted this out" bit.

How long did it take to get Lindholm and Hanifin to sign? I mean I don't expect them to be extended immediately but if an extension is coming I'd really rather have it come before training camp.
