That was a bad call. Both calls on the Flames in the 3rd were bad calls. But also …
Lindholm with the only penalty after getting punched in the face
No even up call on “taking one guy out of a scrum”, just on the Flames
Zadorov call
McDavid holding Andersson’s stick on the goal
Goalie interference on Coleman but not McDavid

C=NG tonight.
McDavid was ridiculous.
Hyman had a great game.
Flames top line invisible.
No one can hit the net.
40 goal scorers don't shoot the puck.
Mike Smith is a loser, doesn't matter what the score is.

I guess we got a series now. Bring on game 3. Hopefully Tanev is back.

The Gaudreau Diving Call?
The No Call on McDavid holding Ras stick
Calling Lindy for a face wash while ignoring Keiths cross checking him in the ribs.
The quick stoppage on there goal wasn't great, the quick stoppage on our goal was worse.
The four minute highstick, maybe the TV didn't show the blood, but given the situation I think if blood wasn't coming out of the guy there was room for a little discretion, especially given the incidental nature of the play.
Not the ref, but the no icing on their 4th goal?
Hell I'll throw some Edmonton ones in there the Kane corss checking penalty was BS.
Edit: I forgot about Colemans interference call, letter of the law maybe, playoffs no chance in hell.

Well we are getting exactly what I expected against this team. This series will be a special teams exhibition. Gone are the playoffs we were used to.
Unfortunate and super frustrating, but we’re gonna have to figure a way thru it.

Kane committed interference on the first goal too before McAvi did the stick hold.

Oh, and that early one for backchecking McDavid, which began mission: Will the Oilers back into the game.
A couple Oiler calls were poor too.
|
Nurse breaking his stick over Tkachuk's (?) back was also a highlight with no call.
Bouchard's uncalled embellishment was also pretty excellent.
Honestly, sometimes I think the product has become so special teams driven, that it's just unwatchable. Players (see oilers) are diving and embellishing simply to win the special teams battle. They have a team built around that.
I think that's why I take these losses harder than I use to. The product is really, really bad.

And McDavid could have been called a dozen times or more for holding someone else's stick, or look at the constant pick plays set up to get McDavid open in the offensive zone could have been called. Or how about calling the steer wrestling and hooking that happened before the Coleman goaltender interference penalty?

The Gaudreau dive, which I have no problem with the refs calling was identical to the penalty McDavid drew against the Flames last game. Identical.
Only difference is that McDavid never gets called for embellishment.
I've turned the game off both times during the second period. I'm not sure if I'll bother watching anymore of them to be honest.

Series changing whistle from a lazy out of position ref.
Penalty calls werent great but to blow that puck dead is inexcusable.
Flames didn't play great but that goal stands, they win the game, simple as that.

I've come around to the view that the Flames need to accept their shut down game doesn't work against this team. They can't win games 2-1 or 3-2. Even if they did have a one goal lead late, McDavid is talented enough that he can score on his own, so no one goal lead is safe.
The way to win against this team is to beat them not with defence, but with offence. They like an all out offensive battle because they have two of the best offensive players in the game. But the Flames can beat them at this game because they also have some of the best offensive players in the game, and a better defence.
So, the way I see it is the Flames should just assume and accept that Edmonton will score 6 goals, so all they have to try to do is score 7 or more. Quite literally, the best defence is a good offence, especially with Tanev out.
Disappointing outing tonight, but for me the problem was a lack of offensive output more than anything else.
