No, this is a different Monahan.

He’s playing strong defensively on all 200 feet and not really getting shots on net, but still looking very effective.

Didn't notice him much so far, good or bad. Not sure he's had a lot of ice time.

Monahan will find the net again. Starting by being responsible is better than trying too hard.

This Oiler coverage reminds me of the Sportsnet coverage on Thursday.

Ater the Oiler game, they showed highlights, and fellated the Oilers for several minutes, then showed highlights from the Montreal and Vancouver games. Then cut to commercial (no mention of the Calgary game).

After commercial, they talked about the Oilers , and interviewed players, for 11 minutes. Then went to commercial again.

When they came back, they covered other sports.

Then after the next break, they started with the Oilers again, then Montreal and Vancouver highlights. after that, they showed the Flames game - 2 goals and 2 chances from Detroit - for about 15 seconds, and then moved on. That was the only coverage for the hour.

Still waiting for him to hit the stat sheet but I thought he had a strong period

I missed the first, totally forgot the game started so early

If the caps score the next one I think it’s my fault

Back to the game...

Really solid road period.

I thought that was Lucic's best period of the season so far. Monahan too.

Liked Backlund (for the first time this year) and his line

Andersson has been good. Hanifin too

Ahh, explains the start. The jinxers were busy or sleeping in.

I feel like the Flames are Don Rickles, they get "no respect".

Again, the Oilers are pushing Sportsnet to feature McDavid as much as possible.as part of the desperation to keep him in Edmonton. Any "insiders" when talking about the Oilers are Sportsnet are Lowe or someone associated directly with the team, to give Sportsnet the content and inside info they can use.
It's becoming less subtle though.

Monahan has been fine. Sutter has everyone carrying their weight, and I would add Monahan to the top of that list. For years this team seemed built around allowing him to find space, while others worked to feed him a puck. Now he's being asked to play a faster, more responsible game, and he is quietly doing a good job. Props to him for being a guy who accepts that role with what appears to be little complaint. That's a professional and the reason he wears a letter.

If by, "back to his old self," you mean skating from slot to slot waiting for the puck to find him, no he is not that guy, but his complete game is adding a lot to the lower lines, and is part of the reason the Flames have been managing the ice early in this game.

Yes. No talk about Lindholm’s goal, no talk about the goalie making his first start for the Flames (by Hrudey no less). Hrudey talked bout how the Flames can’t relax and then they jumped to the Oilers great start.
