People were saying Markstrom couldn't play at an elite level, suggesting he was overhyped when he hit UFA, forgetting his time with the Canucks, or at least downplaying it greatly.
He just reminded a lot of people what he can bring to the table.
Ain't about conclusions, it's about people being wrong in their assessment of this guys abilities.
He won't be a .950 guy when all is said and done, but he still has that high end and can still bring it. That should no longer be in question.

Hang on. Nobody questions NHLers’ ceilings or best games
A really good game doesn’t definitively establish consistency.
It was a nothing-ish game where the Pens outshot the Flames, yet were still missing high end talent like Crosby, Malkin, Carter etc.
Tonight, hell yeah, he was awesome.
We will discuss consistency later in the year with the benefit of hindsight when he has way more than 4-5 games under his belt

Bit of an oxymoron here, no?
Your conclusion is that people are wrong about this or that.

Even Karri Ramo, Joni Ortio, Jonas Hiller, Mike Smith, David Rittich, Chad Johnson, and Cam Talbot had some great individual performances for us.
I actually would love it if that aged poorly, though. I'm ****ing sick of goalies crapping the bed since young Kipprusoff. Even old Kipper was pretty meh.

lol okay, its obviously been more than that...and downplaying the Peguins because they are missing players? They just beat the Leafs 7-1...Markstrom was obviously full marks for the 45 save shutout.
He was the difference tonight, get used to it
very few goalies get a shutout in this game, its not like the Flames locked it down or something

Went into the season saying he’s going to win the Vezina this year with a Sutter coached team. Markstrom is going to have one hell of a season.

His tough saves look easy because his positioning and tracking has been fantastic.

Jamie McLennan agrees with this.

Speaking of McLennan...
A Reddit user was talking about this story McLennan wrote about Darryl Sutter for James Duthie's book. Fun read if you have the time

This. Flames have had competent goalies who have had blocks of strong play, and blocks of weaker play, but watching this guy track the puck and the play... he's on a totally different level.
Mike Smith looked like this in that playoff run, but his style is nowhere near as controlled as Markstrom.
Watch that funny little puck flip at the end of the game where the puck deflects up off a stick and still heads to the net. You can see Markstrom track it the whole time, and his legs do a little "pre butterfly" flex about 3 times while the puck is in the air, it's pretty amazing to see how quick he is and how ready. Like everything's in slow mo for him right now.

Yeah no crow eating needed five starts into a season.
However those that argued last year was partitioned by an injury are building another sample size to support that argument.
Honestly I'd be happier if the rush to make someone wrong on small sample sizes would go away both ways!

He is just so calm compared to post-injury last year.
Also his post to post work is oodles better than it was last we saw him as well. It seemed like he was coming off them at an angle at times which then saw him lose exactly where he was in the nt which in turn led to some weak goals.
Now everything is square, his timing is perfect and his anticipation is off the charts. Cmmunication with his D is also much better than previous.
This is what elite level goaltending looks like and is an absolute delight to watch.
