I don't know why the overreaction? the Canucks got rid of 3 immovable contracts that isn't helping us whatsoever, for a top 6 forward and a former top defenceman who could easily bounce back.

apparently Canuck players are excited with this deal.

rag on JB all you want, he did exactly what he said he would do. Acquire a 3rd line center (Dickinson) top 6 forward (Garland) and a top 4 defenceman in OEL.

The Canucks are also moving Holtby and Schmidt and a possible Virtanen buyout to create more cap space too.

Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
Hoglander - Horvat - Garland
Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin
Motte - Highmore - MacEwen

Hughes - OEL
Rathbone - Myers
Juolevi - Hamonic??

that is a solid lineup SO FAR, JB is not done yet.

Have to throw in the 2022 first rounder to move on from Schmidt. Nobody wants that contract for the next four years. Could buy him out and have him as dead cap for the next 8 years.

Ya I dont get that complaint though when the chances of those picks turning into miller or Garland are so minuscule

Lot's of interest in Schmidt though, a pylon in Risto netted a high first, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a 1st in the 20s for Scmidt.

you can afford to to that when you have lots of young talent on your roster. the Flames cannot do this deal.

Has his value gone up or down since he went for a third last year? He had a bad season

Who knows. This market is crazy

It's a nice treat that the Oilers and Canucks blue lines will be so defensively porous next season, and that their management groups appear to be okay with that just in order to add a little more offense.

Looking forward to an abundance of highlight reel goals of "this guy scored" against both clubs.

Flames trade their firsts for stars like Hamilton not OEL and Judy Garland

Is there?

I dont even think they need to trade him this year, can hold him for another year because of the money saved this year on this deal

He wasnt bad last year, he was a top 4 d man, his counting stats went down because he didnt get pp time

All this Vancouver and Edmonton are a hot mess talk, so it's a shoe in the Flames finish higher than both next year?

Haha, I always appreciate a good laugh. I bet the GM's are burning up Jim's phone line trying to get 30 year old Nate Schmidt for the next 4 years for a cool 6 million per year.

I was looking at their capfriendly page and I realized they have Podkolzin coming over, who you'd have to think they want to put into the top 6 as a RW... so what does this mean? They don't have any faith in their former 1st round RW? Or they're trading Brock Boeser?
I did see an analysis (Bader??) suggesting Podkolzin has been downgraded in projection from a top six to a "will play" prospect.

All it cost was taking one back and the ninth overall pick
