Yeah, everyone knows Rittich gave up 6 against Toronto and Tampa.
Lots of different comparisons you can do. Here is an example.
Number of games giving up 4+ in regulation last 5/10/15/20 starts, plus data for the year. Also considering the opposition that put up 4+:
Rittich: 1/2/2/4
Year: 4 in 36 total starts (11%)
(vs. Tor, TBx2, SJ) <- Note: these are the Top 3 teams in the NHL in Goals for per game
Smith : 1/4/6/7
Year: 12 in 33 total starts (36%)
(vs. Min, Pit x2, Was (w/o Ovi), Det, Bos, Phi, Col, Nas, StL, Van x2)
So there is that.

The initial post was from 3rdliner. He said "Colin Miller and Ryan Reeves are turnover machines."
That's simply objectively untrue.

That's fine, and I accept your apology. Does this admission to error also pertain to the description of my contributions as "irrelevant considerations"? Because I personally feel that the time on ice and quality of competition are quite informative pieces of data when addressing these questions.

My interpretation of your comments was skewed by my initial error in believing you were standing by the position that "Reaves is a turnover machine." Looking back now, my understanding is you were taking umbrage at comparing Gaudreau, Brodie and Hanifin with Ryan Reeves and their relative number of giveaways. I agree that making comparisons between Reaves and Flames' players with a much higher number of giveaways is not particularly helpful given how different their roles are. But nor does anything you say change that there is no basis to say Reeves is a turnover machine for having 11 in 63 games, especially given he has almost three times as many takeaways. The whole thing then gets sidetracked into comparing Reeves and Gaudreau which is ridiculous.
I would like to see Johnny give it away less though. He's had a lot of bad ones lately in his own zone. Rittich bailed him out on one last night.

Smith has certainly turned his game around from where it was before which is probably the reason why the Flames didn’t bother going after Jimmy Howard. But the bad goals which is his biggest problem still haunts him. The Minnesota game was eerily similar to the Montreal game where a leaky goal through the 5 hole cost the Flames a chance at an OT point and possibly a win.
It’s a scary feeling when Smith is in net because he could lose a game by himself on any given night because of his leaky goaltending. It’s like the Brian Elliott playoffs all over again. Even though Rittich’s numbers are worse, the confidence he exudes is still a calming presence. You just feel like he’s going to make the saves that he’s suppose to make and stop some of the ones he shouldn’t.
Rittich should be the game 1 starter. But to Smith’s credit, I think he’s at least made it a 1B conversation again where he might see some time after a Rittich loss.

They were discussing Chucky on the Fan.
Mentioned he’s matured and is playing well.
Wills mentioned the suspension for elbowing Doughty and how Tkachuk has grown up since then. Said his post game comments about Doughty were immature and his teammates didn’t like the play or the comments.
I remember the elbow. I do not remember his post game comments or any controversy. What happened?

Doughty: "He’s a pretty dirty player, that kid. To be a rookie and play like that is a little surprising."
Tkachuk: "I expected more from him, honestly, than to go right to the media and start complaining after a loss. He’s a good enough player where he doesn’t have to worry about any of that stuff. He’s a skilled guy and everything like that, and he’s won a couple of Cups. He’s still a real good player so I don’t think he’ll be too worried about it tomorrow."

I honestly can't imagine there was any pushback against Tkachuk from within the locker room for those comments. Telling it like it is, IMO.

Yeah, based on what's been shared in the media, I don't buy into his teammates not liking what he said. Seems pretty vanilla to me. Might be a case again of Wills parroting the coaching staff and maybe the GM's thoughts on Tkachuk's comments, except this time, Wills has decided to say that the source was his teammates, and not the coaching staff.

Even then I can't imagine Treliving nor the coaching staff having any problem with his comments. They seem pretty benign to me.

Watching the videos of both players comments my takeaway was that they each respect the other as hockey players.

Between Lou's weird rant and Wills' flat out lying about players, yesterday was not an endearing day for the 960 Flames announce team.

I think the team just plays better in front of Rittich. Therefore he's my champion in net.
I really think the last game could give him a lot of confidence.
