How scary is it that IceCube and NewEra are both paid to teach? Holy Crap man. They take a position that confirms their pre-existing biases, those positions get shown to be false, and then they double and triple down in the face of mounting evidence. Just an extreme lack of critical thinking faculties that they'll be doing their best to pass on to kids working their way to adulthood. When you add on the hateful bent to all their rhetoric it becomes even more disturbing.

Wish I could link this full article, but I doubt the rednecks who need to read it would do so.
The Invisible Whiteness of Being: Whiteness, White Supremacy, White Privilege, and Racism.
Quote:
In our society, Whiteness is a default standard; the background of the figure-ground analogy from which all other groups of color are compared, contrasted, and made visible. From this color standard, racial/ethnic minorities are evaluated, judged, and often found to be lacking, inferior, deviant, or abnormal. Because Whiteness is considered to be normative and ideal, it automatically confers dominance on fair skinned people in our society. Whiteness would not be problematic if it weren't (a) predicated on White supremacy, (b) imposed overtly and covertly on People of Color, and (c) made invisible to those who benefit from its existence. Seen from this vantage point, Whiteness is an invisible veil that cloaks its racist deleterious effects through individuals, organizations, and society. The result is that White people are allowed to enjoy the benefits that accrue to them by virtue of their skin color. Thus, Whiteness, White supremacy, and White privilege are three interlocking forces that disguise racism so it may allow White people to oppress and harm persons of color while maintaining their individual and collective advantage and innocence. If we are to overcome, or at least minimize the forces of racism, we must make Whiteness visible. As long as Whiteness remains invisible and is equated with normality and superiority, People of Color will continue to suffer from its oppressive qualities.

Critical thinking skills are lacking? Really? I'm not the one defending a 16 year old boy who went to a pro-life rally wearing a MAGA hat and suggesting he was all innocent and had no hidden agenda. Try applying those highly attuned critical thinking skills to this and tell me this little angel is as clean as you suggest? I mean, what 16 year old kid comes up with $250M lawsuit? What do your critical thinking skills tell you?

By time he graduated and moved on to college people would have forgotten who the hell he was or what he was a part of. Pushing the issue just makes sure he will remain in the spotlight and become a target. If he gets crucified it's because he carried the cross, the nails and the hammer up the hill all by himself.

This is a purely ridiculous take. He's all over Twitter, famous jerks with millions of followers had called him racist among all of sorts of names. Many were calling for his expulsion, others contacting colleges to not allow this kid in. It wasn't going to blow over. It's the internet age, any future potential employers would google his name and the only results would be defamatory statements about his character. Of course they wouldn't know that so they would never hire him.
Also, you know who else carried his own crucifixion cross? Jesus...and those crucified. Sort of just an all around poor analogy.

Except out of all the miserable actions and events shown in the videos there was only two commendable actions. A group of kids sticking up for the LGBT community when the HI started using derogatory homophobic words and...when Mr. Sandmann asked his classmate to not engage with the person yelling profanity at his face.

The bulk of the lawsuit is for punitive damages. Punitive damages in the USA is to punish the defendant and prevent others from doing the same.

This would all go away if he would let it go away. Do you know who let it go away? Peter Cvjetanovic. You probably don't know who he is without looking up his name. Why? Because he didn't make a stink about his 15 minutes and he let it fade away. And he did something demonstrably worse IMO. Nick Sandmann is young and has his whole privileged life in front of him. He will finish going to this prestigious prep school and he will go on to the ivy league. He will have all of this going on to his advantage because he comes from the right family with the right money.

Christ didn't carry his own nails and his own hammer. That's the part of the analogy you're missing. It's one thing to be cast a villain, it's another to live up to the casting.

That was good. That could have been an escalation point and led to a larger confrontation. He deserves some marks for that, and I give him those. Keeping this thing alive is of his (or his parents) making though. They should just let this die and pay for Nick's ivy league education.

I'm all for the lawsuits not because I think this guy needs millions in compensation, but because in their rush to get stories out within minutes and to pass judgement along tribal lines, the media has been routinely crossing the line into libellous and slanderous territory. If decency and fairness won't restrain them in these over-heated times, maybe punitive lawsuits will.

Why stop there? Maybe we should discourage employers from hiring practising Catholics altogether. Start with government hiring. Of course, there are more women who are practising Catholics than men. Lots of immigrants too. But sometimes you need to accept collateral damage when you're taking down an enemy.

You've heard of Google? You can look up names quickly now, amazing website. Every prospective future employer will take the 15 seconds to look up his name, same with Tinder dates. He can't scrub that. He can't close his eyes and hope it goes away. He's almost forced to file the lawsuit if for no other reason to make it absolutely clear that he was a victim of defamation, or at least he believe so.
Also, you pointing to an actual racist and trying to compare the two is exactly why the defamation suit might have some legitimate legs. You, despite all the evidence to the contrary, still believe Nick Sandmann is on the same level as a grown adult attending a white supremacy rally.
Also, there's another irony here in that you were able to point to Peter Cvjetanovic. If your argument was that simply avoiding the limelight got people to forget about him, you shouldn't have been able to get his name. But let me guess, you took 7 seconds to Google him to get his name? It doesn't just go away...

The fact is that employers and future schools will” look his name up”
Yes he has advantages due to his status. Yes he is a poster boy for white priveledge. None of this changes whether or not he was liabled. All it does is likely increase the damages he suffered.
Will an Ivy League school debating between him and another white upper middle class privileged kid take him and his noteriety or the kid without. Same with every job he competes against kids of equal privilege.
There seems to be this wired attitude that someone who has priveldge can’t or is allowed to be harmed because of this privilege. Why can’t the statement be here
Yes this is a priveledged white boy (who may hold racist views) who will likely have a successful life AND he was wronged by the media coverage of this event.

I feel no shame for not wanting to see things from a completely binary viewpoint and learning from it when I make that mistake.
And it doesn’t make me sympathetic to white supremacy either.
Your take on my post is ridiculous.

Is anti-racist code for "anyone who doesn't agree with me is a racist"?
