It's clear he was yelling "I hate to admit it but Monahan is better than me!"

Happens more often than you think. The Oiler mods have that place on lockdown over there. Maybe they are getting paid by sportsnet as well.

It's amazing how that organization goes out of it's way to control the media and even hockey forums. They got busted years ago on HF for making accounts there to praise McTavish and it wouldn't surprise me if they have offered the mods perks for Oiler friendly moderation.

Depends on what you define as luck, I suppose. If you consider good coaching, clutch offence, solid defense, good PP, good PK, good character in players & management, good scouting department, good contracts to fit in other key players as luck, then i suppose they are lucky.

So the Flames have been first in the West for a bit now, but its somehow its due to luck? If the Jets, Preds, Knights, Sharks are first in the West, its because they are a well-run organization, but not if its the Flames? Does that even make sense?

If I’m MacKinnon carrying my team of late, I’d be pissed at a reprimand like that too. He’s doing his job as best he can, so it makes sense for him to ask the coach to do his f’ing job.

Just speculation on my part, but it makes sense to me.

It’s pretty wild for the Flames to be going into this part of the season not with making the playoffs being a concern, but finishing as high as possible to get the best match ups. Been a long time!

45 games in, and the playoffs are essentially a lock? I don’t know how to feel.

I keep looking at the wildcard standings to try to find where we are, and keep having to scroll up.

I remember Peters saying after being hired that he wants to get in a position where playoffs are a lock early and the only worry is locking up home-ice and stuff like that. Mission accomplished.

I think there's a possibility Mackinnon was yelling to Bednar about other players, not about Bednar himself. As in "WTF are those guys doing - I'm doing my job". And the last "Do your f'in job" was muttered as he looked ahead, so if he's complaining about another player or players (maybe the goalie), maybe it's rhetorical?

That doesn't make it classier - either he's publicly fighting with Bednar or he's complaining about teammates in full view.

I remember a good 5 or 6 years ago at this point, the official Oilers board mods came down on everyone and were deleting any negative post about the team. The mods even said they had directive straight from the club to not allow "bashing of this organization" anymore and had a sticky thread with that title. I think they've since changed the name of that thread.

No surprise at all they control the local media as well. I actually love guys like Staples, Jones and Stauffer at this point. They are hilariously and obviously just writing what they are told by the Oilers.

It's seemed pretty clear that most around the Oilers were just going to blow glitter, and I don't get why fans like that.

If I read a thread that the team was upset with criticism, has me in 'tiers', and continues to be one of the worst franchises in any NA league... I'm out on that team. What are you even supporting?

It's very clear they went you to keep paying for the storied franchise they bought, and aren't that interested in earning any of the fandom. Just keep pumping out how great you are, and refuse to listen to feedback on the poor results. Yet every year, we talked about how far they're going to make it...

It's amazing to watch

I think it's more likely that Bednar was chewing Mackinnon out for not doing something correctly, and he disagreed, hence the "do YOUR ####ing job" back to the head coach.

Agreed not a good look any way you slice it.

If I'm to guess, Bednar told Mac to cool it when he threw the water bottle which caused Mac to explode. I thought the same thing as GioforPM did in that the 'do your job' might have been directed (through Bednar) towards someone else on the team.

In any case, that's a real bad look for a team that started where they did. For what he brings to the team, it's justified and likely a long time coming. Thinking of what Avs teams he's been on since he came into the league, I'll bet he's had enough of people failing to show up every year.

Hell, that team wasn't close to a wildcard without him last year - and that follows up the whole Roy saga

Just a little preview of what we'll be seeing from McDavid if he ever grows a spine

Rumor going around that what set off Mackinnon was that he was not happy with Bednar's decision of when to pull Varlamov for the extra attacker.
