Yeah its a homer deal. I just figured that Minnesota doesn't want lots of money back, needs a back up goalie, and a young defence-men.

Domi has averaged 50 points since entering the league. That's twice the production Bennett has produced in the last two seasons.
No, our Domi is not Bennett.

Our comparable would be Bennett. He is the closest thing we have to Domi. Would Fenton want him or ask us to add us another thing.

Down year for Niederreiter, but still a pretty consistent "25 goal" guy.
Ennis' 3.7M, one year left contract is not enough to get either of those guys for Kylington and Mangipane.
It's the equivalent of other team fans saying let's take on Brouwer (far far worse contract) and get Monahan for a second round pick.
|
I dunno, they're the ones willingly devaluing their own asset by attaching a buy out candidate to it.
Mangiapane was the highest scoring (PPG) 21 and under forward in the AHL last season (20 games or more), and Kylington was the 5th or 6th highest scoring 21 and under D in the AHL last season (20 games or more) IIRC.
Pretty good nearly NHL ready prospects if you ask me.
But yeah, I could easily be out to lunch here. I mean I didn't think we should have had to include Fox in the Carolina trade, so what do I know...

Domi, the recently traded 195 pound former first round pick winger in 2013 who averaged 50 points pro-rated on a terrible team is far more comparable to Lindholm, the recently traded 195 pound former first round pick often-time winger in 2013 who averaged 45 points on a terrible team in that same time frame.
Heck, Monahan, while vastly superior, is a better comparable.
In that rumour trade, Bennett is more comparable to Dvorak.

You had better watch it... By bringing realism to the Flames expectations and player valuations you are taking a stance that has me labelled as a troll.

"Realism" is the last word I would use to describe the content of your assertions. The label has much more to do with frequent passive aggressive tendencies that characterize a huge number of your posts.

This is pure speculation on my part, but two things aren't quite adding up for me.
Treliving stated that they are going to add a PP specialist, correct?
Someone posted somewhere - I am assuming in the Derek Ryan thread - that Ryan has worse numbers on the PP than Brouwer.
Who is a UFA and that has a reputation for being a strong PP player?

Joe Thornton?
Riemsdyk has put up some PP goals. Perron has a ton of PP assists.

Why UFA? Treliving likes to go after pending RFAs in trades.
ETA: Perrault might be obtainable if Winnipeg wants to re-sign Stastny. So you trade one of your pending RFA goalies to them for Perrault, who they can't re-sign for cap reasons. Perrault plays extra forward on their units and had 7 goals on the pp - not bad considering the other snipers.

That lineup looks miles ahead of last years setup that GG was using.

I agree with this lineup.
Another key is that "Always given, never earned" Brouwer isn't in it.

When I do up the Flames roster by signing their RFAs there is certainly money left over, but not a lot of space.
I have roughly $8M when the dust settles and a full roster with promoted kids.
If you assume they're adding Derek Ryan at say $2.5 then $5.5 is left which is plenty, but then where do they fit.
To me the big issue is where do they all play? I don't know if you can add $5M worth of additional help up front without moving players out or buying out Brouwer (they have two more days).
Clear top nine forwards would include Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Backlund, Frolik, Bennett and Jankowski. Ryan makes 9. Brouwer is taking up a spot on the fourth line.
They need to move bodies out, especially if they want to see what Mangiapane and Foo can do.
Makes we wonder if they are using the negotiation window to make the final call on Brouwer's buy out.

This is what I've got assuming the Flames get the two guys they're rumored to be after for roughly what I have there, plus educated guesses on Lindholm, Hanifin, Janko and Rittich.
That's $4,758,290 of cap space left but they need to get Andersson on the team. Maybe he takes Hogstrom's spot and fights with Kulak for the final starting spot, or maybe they move Stone if Andersson has a great camp and clear out even more salary.
Plus, as you mentioned, there is still the Brouwer question.

Brouwer needs to be moved or bought out. Definitely by the end of the upcoming season, hopefully earlier.
I have nothing against Stone, but we need to move him and give the young guys a spot and open up cap. I wonder if it's a situation where they try and trade Stone 5-10 games in. Either to a team that has an early injury or flawed lineup.

Brouwer buyout and get rid of Stones contract leaves them a lot of space.

Yeah, I'd like to see Stone moved in order to open a spot for Rasmus, but I can't see Treliving doing that. It's not how he operates. If he moves Stone then he will have moved out 3 RHD in one off season, and if Rasmus struggles there is no safety net. I think Stone will remain a Flame at least into part of next season to see how Rasmus does. Maybe even one more entire season.

When does the buyout window end? Sadly it seems more and more unlikely the Flames pull the trigger on getting out from under Brouwer's contract.
I get that it can stay on the book another year and not be a big deal but I'm of the opinion he drags down any line-mates he's paired with and fully feel it would be an addition by subtraction measure.
